Free ICC profiles for P2100 - Comments wanted!

Hi Tricia,

thanks! Did not know that. about colour life.

I get the same result from the Ilford Printasia Photo Glossy paper. ;-( So I guess that goes into my 1290 S

Luster - hmm - maybe the "pro shops" got it.

Epson Colorlife
Er, Kasper - the Colorlife papers are not for Ultrachrome ink - the
ink won't dry and you'll get roller marks on your print, then
you'll have to clean the rollers. This is the only
non-recommended-for-pigment-ink Epson paper that I know about.
Epson Luster
Now this paper is my favorite with the PhotoBlack ink - I hope you
can find it!

Interesting idea -- (profiles to reflect future colors due to
fading versus current colors prior to fading). Of course that begs
the question at what temporal point do you profile? Or is there
some sort of "maximum liking" profile that, while not the best at
any point in time, provide the best match/true colors over an
extended period of time?

This is a very interesting challenge; not only to determine the
fade curve as a function of time (and storage conditions) but also
how the interaction between colors influences the fading rate. Of
course the difference between machinereading and perception of
color needs to be taken into account, perhaps via Thurstonian model?

Kasper,

I tried 3 bw prints using your profile for matte paper last night, I checked them this morning under natual light and the result is indeed outstanding. I was able to get quite netural bw at 1440 dpi using epson printer driver controlled ICM (with standard espon matte profile), but the print was a bit darker. Your profile matches my monitor better, and shows definitely better highlight and shadow detail. Under sunlight, the print is very netural. (Haven't checked under other lighting).

Cannot wait to try color print on epson premium luster paper (getting a bit greedy here:-))

Many thanks for sharing the profile with us.

Hi Guys,

I got my GretagMacbeth EyeOne Photo last night, and you can
download a few profiles from my website for the P2100 (so far)

download here:
http://www.klarisma.com/photo/

The Profiles so far are for the following Epson paper:
EPSON Stylus Photo 2100 Premium Photo Glossy Paper
EPSON Stylus Photo 2100 Matte Heavy Weight

Both are made with Photo Black T0341 cartridge. (Matte cart.
profiles later..)

Please give me some feedback.. ;-) I got the 2100, 1290 and a HP
multifunction inkjet (155dx) for which i'll make some profiles.

thanks ;-)

I'm currently working on a tool license that will help me optimze even better! ;-) So watch out for a new version of the Archival/Enchanced Matte any time now. Just remember that AM/EM is made for 2880 dpi! (there are variations in color between 1440 and 2880! - Delta E about 11-25 between 1440 and 2880 - normal Delta E on my profiles is average about 0,1 to 0,2) I discard the messurements if they are worse than Delta E 0,2.

Luster paper... i wish i knew where to get it.. ;-)

I intent to ask you the color variations between 1440 and 2880dpi. You confirmed my suspicious that the variation is quite big, as I got bad result with epson profile at 2880, and better at 1440. Your matte proflie at 2880 is definitely much better for my printer (for bw , haven't tried color yet). I don't understand why epson does not clearly state what dpi are recommended for their profile.

epson premium luster is very popular here in the states, may be it is called lustre on the your side?

I'll report back my test results when I tried your other profiles (semi-gloss later this week)

Thanks again for sharing.

Does the Eye One license allow you to distribute profiles you've created? I understand some profile packages do not allow you to do this.

I do think you can use them.

I'm checking the difference at the moment.

Thank you for providing the link to your free icc profiles. I
think those profiles will be very useful for people like me. I am
in the process of buying an Espon 2200 here in Toronto, Canada as
it is very hard to find here. I have a question however. Could I
use the profiles for the 2100 with the 2200? I think these
printers are the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you!
I do some work here for free - and if you dont want to try them -
then it is fine for me - I don't expect anything.

But if someone was to comment on the profiles - I'll try to correct
them - and give them away for free in a better version - and the
only cost was a $1 or so for a print you might would have done
anyway - and I promise you - the ICC profile is not bad in the
current version - and is a lot betten than a printer only with a
standard Epson ICC profile.

I admit theese profiles are not yet comparable to Cathy's yet - but
I do think that the next profile will have Delta error values
comparable to Cathy's.

Watch the website for "large" format ICC profiles. ;-)

Why do I give them away? Well - for the printers and paper I have
and use - I'll publish the profiles I use for free, since I've done
them anyway. I won't do profiles for other printers than the ones I
own for free (at the moment...) ;-)

I took a more closed look at three bw prints I made two nights ago with your profile (matte 2880) and epson's (1440). Yours shows better highlight deeper black. However on two of the prints that have contast patterns like dark color flowers over white cloth, there is a little bit red warm tint around those patterns. No color cast on the other areas and none at all on the thrid print which has no contast patterns. Did you notice tint any in your print?

Hi Deven,

Yes - EyeOne (and ProfileMaker) allows distribution of profiles. (Both for money and for free)

You are also allowed to install the software on multiple machines - and profile their displays - with only one software license.

But you are not allowed to bundle profiles made with EyeOne with paper, printers and other of the likes.

best

Kasper
Does the Eye One license allow you to distribute profiles you've
created? I understand some profile packages do not allow you to do
this.

Deven

hmm - as said - i'm not 100% happy with the Enhanced Matte profile anyway (yet). Look at my other thread of paper compare - where I compare Enhanced Matte with Semigloss Photo paper.

It seems like either the paper or the colors fade at diffrent speeds very quickly after print-time. So now i'm trying to figure out when fading is "complete" - 24 hours was not enough to complete the fading.

I do have another profile (v. 1.05) of enhanced matte - made after some fading.... But I'm not happy with that either.

Hi Kasper,

you did great job. Some days ago I have updated my EyeOne Pro to EyeOne Photo too. In this connection I have a question: how did you measured Delta E ? Betwenn printed output with profile installed in Photoshop and reference file supplied with EyeOne ? If so, how did you transfered values from reference tif file to EyeOne Share ?
Best regards.

Sergey.

Delta E is meassured via the Meassure Tool in Profile Maker 4.1.1.

Meassure Tool have a compare function - and since each test chart is "scanned" at least 3 times - the differenct scans are compared in MeassureTool. If the Delta E is to high - the scan is "disgarded"
