I have my EX2F for almost 2 months now. I consider it to be a worthy replacement for my old Canon G12. Overall I'm quite happy with it (but I wish it had an electronic level and an automatic lens barrier).

Unfortunately, the file numbering is screwed up. It went from 0999 to 6000 for no good reason. Yesterday it jumped from 6384 to 0000. I did not reset the file numbering and I did not change cards.

Did anyone have a similar experience?

How have you got the file No. set in the settings screen, Series or Reset?

I have a EX1 and usually leave this set on Series.

From the EX1 manual, appendixes P106:

Reset: Set the file number to start from 0001 after

inserting a new memory card, formatting a memory

card, or deleting all files.

Series: Set the file number to follow the previous

file number after inserting a new memory card,

formatting a memory card, or deleting all files.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Brian.

No, I left my camera at the "series" setting - never touched this setting. Also, "reset" would get me back to 0000, not 6000 or any other random number.

It would be worth trying a different memory card, otherwise there is possibly a FW bug.

I'll do that. However, it will take one thousand shots to find out the result.

BTW, I also suspect some other firmware bugs, but they are sporadic hard to proof. Often some options are grayed-out for no obvious reason, but come back after a turn-off + turn-on cycle. I'll keep watching

With the EX1, many functions gray out other functions, that is a major annoyance which we were hoping would be improved with the EX2. For example, I like using VIVID setting, but that automatically excludes face detection, Image adjustment settings, and smart Range and who knows what else. There are workarounds for some of these annoyances which you will find in time.

Yes, many fuctions are grayed out depending on face focus, focus area, etc. You cannot have manual focus unless the AF pattern is set to center. You cannot set ISO in P mode (only in A, S and M).

In SMART mode you can focus very close without having to set macro - that is great. However, in P/A/S/M mode you must set macro to get close. And worse, it sticks; after tuning the camera off and on again, it is still in macro mode. I have already missed many snapshots in the street because of that. No other camera is doing that.

The Smart-Link function on the 4-way rocker is also a nuisance. Countless times I tried to navigate through the menu with this rocker and accidentially started the Smart-Link procedure (it goes into WiFi mode and tries to link to my viewfinder app on my phone). I need to turn off the camera to kill this process.

Apart from those complains, I'm quite happy with it. I carry a Sony RX100 and the EX2F every day. 75% of my pictures are from the Samsung.

EX1 can have ISO set in P mode, can't see why it wouldn't be the same. When in AUTO it is limited to ISO400

I leave macro turned on all the time in mine, it may slightly slow focus, but on the other hand it focusses perfectly and you can work through any range without having to make any changes.

There are complaints in the canon forum that the S110 does not have such functions sticky.

Interesting, EX1 doesn't have that, but it has the problem that the instant video button is pressed all the time by accident, I think that has been moved on the EX2.

That's good feedback.

I've just tried it: when in macro mode, the EX2F cannot focus on distant objects. Only in SMART mode it can focus from 1cm to infinity.

What mode does SMART select when it is able to focus?

In SMART mode the focus selector on the 4-way rocker is disabled. However, on ther screen there is a yellow flower icon (different from the white flower icon after manually selecting macro). In SMART mode very little can be set: flash mode, photo size and ND filter. The front wheel for ±EV is also disabled.

I use SMART mode now for quick snapshots, when I have no time to fiddle with the menu.

BTW, the video button is good - no accidental recording of my feet (unlike the Sony NEX-C3, which is infuriating for that reason).

It happened again: 6382, 6383, 6384, 0000, 0001, 0002 ...

Very weird, very annoying. This is the first camera in 13 years that has this kind of problem.

It has been demonstrated here, but I can't remember the method now, that the number can easily be reset with the use of a memory card. So the first question would be, do you swap between cards?

Also, did you format your cards in camera, and maybe trying out another card for an extended time to see if it still happens. I haven't seen any other reports of this fault, other than that I think samsung would be the only ones who have a clue what might be going wrong,

No, that wouldn't explain it. Every camera I've ever seen changes the photo (JPEG or RAW) filename only if it sees a higher file number in a folder having the same name or if it sees any file number from a folder with a higher folder number, but it's extremely unlikely that if it finds a qualifying folder, that it would only contain a single photo numbered 0001, since such folders would probably contain considerably more than one file. Also, I've never seen any filenames using 0000. When a new folder is created, the first photo saved in that folder should have the number 0001, not 0000. But Samsung could start them at 0000 if it wants to be bizarre. :)

As far as I'm aware, the EX1/TL500 only creates folders using sequential numbers, but some other, newer Samsung cameras can be configured to create folders using the date, instead. I don't have an EX2f manual so I don't know what folder naming options it has. If it has the additional naming options, it would probably be a good idea if the OP told us what has been selected for his EX2f as well as the actual names of the folders on his EX2f's memory card. They might be options like these : File Name (Standard or Date), File Number (Reset or Series), and Folder Type (Standard or Date). For example, the NX20's Folder Type options are Standard (XXXPHOTO) or Date (XXX_MMDD).
