I'd like to hear from owners of this camera first. Any input for pre-purchase consideration appreciated. Some real samples?

Does viewfinder have diopter adjustment?

Yes it does have diopter adjustment. I was an early adopter and there were performance issues. But now after several firmware upgrades it is a fine camera.

fuji x100 has a diopter, and the ovf/evf is amazing as people say.

I'm also deciding between the limited edition x100 and a black leica x1.

I have shot with my friend's x100 but only played with the x1 in a shop.

for the moment I am leaning towards the x1 because :

I quite like how the camera feels in the hands,

I used to shoot the Panasonic Lc1(Leica Digilux 2) and the quality I liked

about the images (sharpness/ noise, Leica glow?) is there in the X1 ( only my opinion).

On the other hand:

The black x100 feels so much better in the hands than the silver x100 (again my opinion)

so you might consider that if you have held only the silver one.

I have a Fuji x10 that I love so much (but limited in depth of field as it's a compact) both

x10 and black x100 can be brought for roughly the same price (or just a little more than a

used x1, in my country anyway).

If you are deciding between x100 and x1 I imagine you are aware of the focusing speed not being as fast as recent cameras but nonetheless are not really disturbed by it, and you just want a simple small camera with high IQ to walk around and document your life . Both cameras can do the job very well. It's down to which feels better to shoot with and the image quality that you like. Right now as I have said I'm leaning toward the X1.

When you make a decision please post your thoughts, it will help me with mine~ I will follow

this thread to see what others have to say about it.

X100 LE is only $1,399 and X1 $2K. I did handle both in a store and X100 is heavier and bigger. I want Leica, but don't want to be swayed by brand only.

I have D300, LX5 and FZ200, which are fine cameras.

Oh, I guess I wish I could justify M9P, but $10K is a little to much for hobby use. I don't sell enough photographs.

With X100 you'll get more for less money! However, both are fantastic cameras!

I'd never buy a camera without a useable (vs.peephole) viewfinder - OVF/EVF/HV - ever. But then that's just me.

You go and get the X100LE sell the D300 (if you not need to do fast shooting) the LX5 you can keep for that little bit wider but if you buy the WC for the X100 you may get buy. That would leave you with the X100LE +WC & the FZ200 (just perfect).

Of cause if you use the D300 with tele lens you may carry around that load for better IQ.

X100...no question (unless that red dot is a must-have). IQ between the two is close enough that I'd call it negligible. In fact, I like the Fuji better.

With the X100 you get the VF - and not just any VF...HYBRID VF. The add-on for the X1 will cost you an extra couple hundred (US).

I do not like the collapsing lens on the X1. It's a fixed focal length lens, why make it collapsible???

Certainly, the X1 is a great looking camera, and the round pop-up flash is "adorable." The X100 is also a great looking camera and I wouldn't describe anything on it as "adorable." IMHO, the Fuji is the clear winner in the looks department.

With everything added to the X100-LE, it seems like the clear winner. You'll not be disappointed!

I bought the Black X100 two days ago and Fuji included the $399 wide angle converter for free - I have to say that swung me to buying a new limited edition vs a used X100 ......I have had an X1 and just did not click with it.

BTW I also had an LC1 and I really should not have sold that camera ( to buy the X1) when looking back at some of the images it produced that lens was amazing.

Looking to replace my broken Lc1.

As owner of x1, LC1, and x100LE, in your opinion,

Does the Fuji give a closer look to the LC1 than the Leica?

I'm a freelance writer and while not really a photographer,

most of the time I am required to shoot portraits of people and places

I interview for some publications.

LC1, LX3, and now Fuji X10. For film I used Zorki and Polaroid sx-70.

I have not received the X100 as yet and so I can' t confirm really - howeve going from the images I have seen on the forums the X100 does produce beautiful JPEG'S which the LC1/Digilux 2 also did. The X1 JPEG'S did not have that 'look or soul' that some people perceive however if you took the time to shoot RAW and PP then it produced awesome results.

I still have Zorki and Kiev. Sold recently Kiev 6x6.

Looking forward to your opinion on both cameras when your x100LE arrives.

I just read steve huff's ( he also has the digilux2) excellent review on both

cameras but it made

the decision harder because in the end the guy bought BOTH cameras for himself,

and he still seems equally undecided on which he prefers. Arghhh!!!

I was leaning towards the Leica x1 and was all set to go to my friend's shop

and now everybody has me leaning towards the fuji X100LE haha.

In the end the decision is mine so... ... ... Arghhh!!

Zorki and Kiev, great cameras! Actually, my shallow reason for preferring the x1 design

over the fuji is the rounded edges and low body similar to the Zorki. Other than that

both have excellent design.

In Korea, a new x100LE cost around 1000usd and a slightly used black X1 plus original grip costs around 1100usd (in my friend's shop).

Honestly I went with the X100 because I love it's jpeg output plus it has ovf/evf which the X1 does not. Now that the firmware updates have smoothed out some of its quirks and improved its AF I felt it was the best choice for me. However as Steve Huff said both are great cameras and you cannot go wrong with either of them - get whichever one ticks your tock and makes you want to take photos for the sheer fun of it.

x100- I OWN IT. Besides all of the obvious and what has been said- from an autistic side- he camera has a soul.... too bad you just missed-$999..... good luck

good price for X100 LE. Here $1399

what $999

Yeah a very good price. I want to thank you and everybody for helping my decision.

Decided on x100LE and will get one on December. I was able to shoot

with my friend's X100 today and with the new firmware it did feel

a lot better than using it before the upgrade. Don't understand why people

say the ovf is inaccurate as it missed only a few shots in different situations

during testing (probably people don't take into account parallax?).

when using macro, evf switches on (makes sense). Manual focusing is slow

but the distance indicator in ovf/evf is there and is quite handy (like Zorki?).

At first the fly by wire focusing was really irritating but it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Can't really understand why people say the menu is cluttered as it seems to make

sense (there are only 2 main tabs, one for shooting and another for main settings).

Switching ovf to evf is a Joy! Using the x100 was good fun.Ah battery life could be better

so I suggest a spare or 2 if you get yours. My thoughts on x100 performance

after using it for a day. Thanks for posting this question Leerob it really helped.

The x100 (not the black limited) was selling for $999. until about(99% sure the price expired) 10/31 on Amazon & B&H. But thats over. I believe that was to move product being everyone was waiting for the X-E1 to hit the shelves. Unless your in love with the Hybrid OVF-\, why not just get a XE1 for same cost of black x100? Don't get me wrong- i love the x100 and to your original question I would not get the Leica vs. the x100. I also dont understand the need to spend more $ for all black but thats IMO and I am more pratical and care more on the finished image versus the "look". Unless you want to be more incognito with the black in which it will. I get compliments all the time on the x100 meaning it gets noticed.... if & when I get XE1 it will be all black BUT I may get XP1 for the hybrid- I really like having both at my disposal.... good luck
