Anyone notice that the Firmware 2.0 gives a little sharper image?

One of my complaints is that my X10 was a little too soft for my liking and I had to sharpen the photos to get somewhat comparable results to my Nikon D70. Maybe I have a " placebo effect" but I am fairly certain that something changed as I was not able to get the results shown in the photo below prior to the 2.0 upgrade. Has anyone else seen an improvement in focus?

Like I said, it could be my imagination, but the last few photos have really surprised me. What is your complaint against 2.0? I am curious and would like to learn more.

I either don't understand the post processing of RAW files or was under the understanding that Fuji gave superior results with the JPG processing that occurs in the camera. I have not been pleased with RAW processing in Adobe Lightroom 3.6. What post processing software do you prefer? I like the flexibility and better editing of RAW files and used it with my D70 about 90% of the time. I just haven't got the same results with the X10. Thanks for your input. Always learning....:)

Looks like I need to read the manual. Thank you for the information.

I'm not giving up the RAW button.
You do know that the FN button can be assigned to select raw? Thus you get the raw select menu when pressing the FN button

I consider it an error to neglect raw in the quickmenu, it should have been there instead of fine/normal selection (and if using the quickmenu for only that you would have retained the functionality of the raw button)

I just upgraded, and I think maybe the large size (4000x3000) is working a little better. However, I have not been using my X10 much recently so I cannot be sure.

My original 10 was replaced by Fujifilm with a new camera, so I'm not sure if there's a difference. I downloaded V2.o the same day the new camera arrived, and for me it seems like the batteries last longer, not a bad thing since they're so small.

I'm jpeg-only, so I like the Q-Menu a lot, and the filters are a lot of fun. If I just had to have RAW, I'd just assign it to the Fn button and call it a day: I really like being able to tweak things on the Q instead of flipping pages as I did previously.

All the Best,

JW

Slightly off subject but the skintones and colour is lovely in this photo. What camera settings do you use?
It was EXR or Program mode, as I switch between them interchangeably. Sorry for not being specific. It was a very quick snap of my son with no time to fool with settings. He never stays still. Here is another.

The file's EXIF data says "Exposure Program - Portrait Mode".

So presumably you were using 'EXR-AUTO' mode, and the 'EXR' scene recognition selected "Portrait".

Thank you for noticing that. I need to load an exif viewer.

Lovely. Lovely boy with a lovely smile. Had my X10 for a year but still not configured it quite right yet. Thanks for the replies.

Mark: what EXIF program are you using? My Opanda has nowhere the level of sophistication that you seem to come up with. Thanks.

Well, in this instance, I simply downloaded the 'original' file and used the Windows XP, file right click, 'Properties > Summary (Advanced>>)'. Windows only offers a very limited subset of the EXIF info, but that just happened to include "Exposure Program - Portrait Mode".

A specialist EXIF reader program will generally offer far more information, often including the most interesting, custom/manufacturer specific, 'Maker Note' information.

I generally just get by with using whatever is provided within programs I use, like Photoshop and RawDigger - but I must try a full EXIF viewer myself sometime.
