I have a sigma 30mm and wanted to use it on manual focus. Unfortunately when I do, its extremely annoying. Every time I turn the focusing ring, it automatically zooms in so I can't see the whole. I can't find an option to disable this.

That'll be manual focus assist, or something along those lines. If memory serves correctly it's in the 'camera' set of settings. A quick google for the term will put you on the right track if you can't find it

This is a feature called "Manual focus assist", if I remember it correctly. It can be disabled in one of the menus. Search for it and you'll find it. On the other hand, it's a really nice feature. You can focus much more accurately with it. You can set the time it stays zoomed-in if you wish. Play with it for a while and you'll see that it's actually a nice thing. I always use it when I want to manually focus with a Sony lens. When I use a manual focus lens via an adapter, I have to press a button to zoom in, which is not as nice.

Thats the thing though, I do want to use MF assist.

With the sigma, MF assist on, it zooms whenever I turn lens. This is annoying and feels out of my control.

With a nikon F adaptor, I can MF all I want and still zoom in when I touch the screen.

Now if I turn MF assist off, with the sigma it works how I want it to BUT I can't magnify if I touch the screen when I want to. So its essentially impossible to get the same behavior as with a simple adaptor?

Hmm, yeah, I think you are right, it doesn't work the same way with A/F lenses as with manual. I'm not 100% sure because I'm actually fine with the automatic A/F assist and I never bothered to override this behavior. Don't know what to say. Try to use it more. Who knows, you might begin to like it... Sorry if I couldn't be of help.

Have you tried? I thought it could work like that.
