Hi, please help i am getting really confused researching the best wide angle lens to purchase so i get best value for money. I have a canon 60d and would like a good all round wideangle lens. i am looking at the sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 and the tamron sp af 10-24 f3-5-4.5 as these have been suggested by a friend and they are well priced. Which is the best of these two or am i better off looking at a completly different lens. thanks

In my opinion, the Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 is one of the best ultra wide zooms available for APS-C cameras. Canon's 10-22 f/3.5-f/4.5 is also very good and might should have a red ring. I'd choose the Canon if the price wasn't so high and you have to buy the hood.

The Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-f/4.5 is very good. I'd probably put the Sigma second, but the Canon is far better, albeit at a higher price.

I just meant it was a high quality lens, maybe as high as an L lens. I actually don't know how Canon decides what's L or not. :)

Now we at Nikon don't need a red ring to let us know what's good or crappy. They are all good. :-P

I bought the Tamron (for my Nikon) and found it to be very poor with regard to sharpness and color fringing. I immediately returned it and paid the difference for Nikon's 10-24, which is quite good.

So I don't know about the Sigma, but avoid the Tamron. And I'd consider Canon's 10-22 to be the best value.

The best lens is something like the 17-55 f/2.8, and 10-22 or Sigma 12-24 if you need ultra-wide.

Hi there. There are a few other lenses you could look at, starting with

The Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM

The Canon EF-S 15-85mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM

The Canon EF_Smm 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM

A lot depends on your budget, the 17-55 is the fastest lens of the three and would be good for low light situations as well as landscapes, the 15-85 is also an excellent landscape lens and the Sigma is probably the cheapest of the three but do not let that put you off.

There is an excellent web site called MPB photographic that sells excellent second hand lenses with a guarantee that is well worth a look at

Hi,

Have you considered the Sigma 8-16mm, a great lens.

If you already have the 15-85mm or kit 18-55mm you aren't really disadvantaged by the missing 2mm.

Good luck in your quest

Cheers,

Duggo
