Hello All -

I have a Canon G2 and Nikon Coolpix 4500 (and ofcourse a Kodak DC 4800 too). I need to some pictures today of a Dance Ballet. I am not supposed to use FLASH (I have one Speed Light 420 too).

I need some expert advice.

I am going to use tripod, anyway.

Please suggest how to take beatiful pictures of the above program without flash.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry to much for tripod as the dancers will be moving so slow shutter shots (where the tripod is crucial) probably won't be very beneficial.

I don't know enough off hand about each camera. I think the canon and nikon both have 4x optical zoom lenses.

I would take whichever produces the best low light images ...and also has the ability to be in focus.. either manually or automatically.
The other thing to balance out is which does better with higher iso.

Getting the shutter speed up is the crucial thing for the movement is paramount in my mind for this situation. Through faster lens speed and perhaps higher iso.. this is where your answer lies in my mind.

A lot of it will depend though on lighting and how close you are allowed to get. Perhaps I"ve got the wrong image in my head of what you're trying to do.

Thanks for the reply.
I do take lots of pitures using a bunch of digi cams I have.
Tonight there is an Indian Classical Dance Ballet is being performed and
I am supposed to take pictures with the stage light (which I believe
considerably good enough for good pictures using the tripod.). Since its
a dance program people will be moving (people will be in groups).

Hence I am made the incharge for this photography, though I consider
myself a good photographer, I am a little bit nervus about it.

Thanks.

I suggest set your G2 to hi speed shutter
drive mode to hi
no digital zoom
no review
flash off
center metering
ev -1/3 to -2/3 to increase shutter speed
hold the shutter button down and fill your buffer

review when there's a break and take the best of the bunch

using hi-speed will increase noise but you'll get quite a few clear pictures

I agree with the previous poster. You might want to try to clear up the pictures afterwards for noise with Neat Image. You can download a free and fully functional trial version here http://www.neatimage.com/
