Firstly - thank you to everyone who has taken the time and posted pictures and advice on using the FZ200...these posts made it easy for me to decide to buy this camera. I am definitely a noob when it comes to photography, but I have to say I am thrilled with some of the pictures I have been able to take at this point. I was able to get dozens of great photos at the zoo, closeups, zooms, etc, but for the most part they were pretty straight forward pictures of animals.

That being said, here are a few that caught my eye as they are from a slightly different perspective. I really like these photos, and I would love some feedback as I've been looking at so many photos I'm not sure if these appeal to me simply because they are different, and not because they are good photographs. These are the jpegs straight off the camera - I have the RAW files and will work with them when I get a little more experience doing that... :/

Thanks again for all of the info - you people make this a great forum!!

Really like the sharpness and color of the last one. Not really impressed with the first three. Probably due to their composition and angle.

Really nice shots, the last one is the best. Great focus and colors.

I also like the first shot, very good focus when you view it in larger size. Interesting perspective, although he gets a little lost against the bright sky.

The second one seemed uninteresting until I saw his eye. He's looking at the camera from that odd angle, and that makes it an interesting shot to me. Again good focus and color.

My only problem is the third one of the mandarin duck. The lighting is not good, and his face is out of focus. It is always a good idea to focus on the face, particularly the eyes.

Tricky lighting in the first shot, but well done! It's an interesting angle, I like it. I also like the last shot. 2 & 3 not so much, but I wonder if the third shot could be improved with some post processing - maybe playing around with shadows and highlights. Keep them coming.

Nice shots Jay. I also really like the last shot. The first shot is nice, but with a yellow bird and the light background it makes it a bit washed out, but still lovely. As for the 3rd shot, I just think that the dang duck just didn't want to sit still, so it was hard to keep his head from being a bit fussy. Nice shot just the same. :)

Love the last shot! Sharp detail at 600mm, eye in focus, details in the feathers, and attitude from the bird!.

Well done.

Regards,

Shane

I don't recognize any of these birds - what part of the world are they from?

Thanks Erik - I definitely appreciate the feedback. The second one is a black vulture native to Florida. The other 3 birds are asian. The fourth is a nicobar pigeon, and unfortunately I don't know what the 1 and 3 are. Thanks again.

Thank you all VERY much for the feedback. I definitely have a better idea of things to consider when setting up for a shot. I've looked at all of your galleries and posts, and love the fact that I can get this level of analysis from people who take such amazing photos. Thanks again!

I like the fourth one best too Jay. If you don't have highlights turned on, try that. You also could bring down the EV as the day goes on. It appears the first was the earlier shot of the day and you weren't fighting bright sun. Always remember these lighter cameras move very easy when you push the sutter. Keep posting!

Peace

Greg

First off let me welcome you to this forum Jay.

The first shot is really interesting. The angel of view is unique. The second thought I had was, "Lemon Meringue pie". Don't ask me why, I don't know. Possibly it has to do with the fact that it's such a pretty yellow bird, and possibly I'm hungry for Lemon Meringue pie.

In any event, you seem to be an accomplished photographer. And again, welcome to the forum.
