the trees are getting barer, the birds hungrier, and sony a77 has lost a feather as well :

it's lost the ability to prevent shooting without card! It used to be near release without lens!

I suppose the last update was so massive they had to find room somewhere. I think the trade off between locking the movie button and loosing that no card failsafe is a bit stiff!

the lost 20 picture of the great spotted woodpecker are sure still fresh in my memory but damn!

Are you sure? I don't think the setting was ever present on the A77, and I think there have even been requests to add it in new firmware. It is not documented in the manual.

Ouch, I did that once. I drove to a wildlife reserve with all my gear but the memory card was still in my computer. :-(

Cheers,

It's never stopped me shooting without a card? When I tried one out in store, it always stored the last image for you to review, but it kept on shooting..

Are you sure it used to? Or have I missed a menu option?

I have one of the very early a77's and it never had that option regardless of the version.

Why on earth would anyone want to release the shutter to take a picture without a memory card???

Would be like taking pictures without film in a film camera!

How about adding 'Release without battery' in the next firmware update!?!?

A77 never had a no SD card warning.

Yes, I also don't understand what the complaint is about in this thread. Why would someone be upset that they CANNOT shoot without a memory card?

Maybe it will be added with firmware 1.07, if enough of us complain!! We will just have to live without this important feature for now. I just hope it is not a deal breaker for anyone considering to get a Sony A77!

The problem the OP had was that he COULD shoot without the card thinking the card was there.

Yes there is a orange blinking text NO CARD in the viewfinder and the LCD.

Greetings Leon.

They use this mode one demo cameras in every shop in every country that sells them. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to play with them, (or the shop would loose a lot of memory cards) :-)

Other than that it is a pretty useless function.

Just to be clear, the A77 has always had a warning, and still does. It has never had, to my knowledge, a lock preventing shutter release without a card. Many other Sony cameras do have this feature.

I hope I understand your post correctly, and I understand you have an A77. I have an A65, and if I shoot without a memory card, the pictures go to an internal memory drive until it fills. Now, if I put in the memory card, the internal memory is masked by the memory card I just inserted. To see the "internal" contents, you need to remove the memory card, and connect the camera to your PC.

Sorry in advance if I misunderstood.

there has never been a shutter lock on an A77 when the card is missing. there is a warning that the card is missing, both in the EVF and the LCD
