Very disapointed, again looks like the k7 rules again for pro shoots. shot another event last night and the k7 was flawless again even the studios 5dmk11 cant do what the k7 can. anyway just read the k511s manual and it cant display bright/dark area warning in live view. this is very important to me. as like last nights black and white ball shooting in a studio i set up in an ajoining room and having the blinkies showing after every shot is a must to get exposure perfect with just clipping the whites as well as shooting gold silver dance costumes. nothing beats the k7 yet!. why do camera companies disable these features.

cheers don

AFAICS this function is still there as in K-5, See page 147 in the manual.

Have you tried: Record mode menu -> Live View -> Bright/Dark area -> On

According to the K-5 II manual p 290, this defaults to Off.

As far as I can tell, K-5 allows you to include blinkies in live view, digital preview, instant review and playback modes. How does this differ from the K7?

BTW, blinkies after every shot sounds more like instant review than live view, but you have the choice of none, either or both with the K5.

It's on p147-148 of the K-5II manual.

I don't know about other makers but Pentax doesn't disable this function, at least on its APS-C bodies.

Having used K-7 and K-5 extensively I haven't found anything that the K-7 does better than the K-5.

"Nothing beats the K-7 yet"

Hehe...

Just because it's your camera doesn't mean you've got to prove why its best camera. The K5II is clearly superior in every sense

Apart that he doesn't know how to use it...

i didn't know it would show blinkies in live view. i haven't really looked into the fancier functions, though... i am not entirely sure what this thread is about, but i learned something.

for the OP-person,

the K5 series of camera might help the in that you could take the pictures a little underexposed (relative to his K7) and then lift the shadows after the fact/event. 'underexposing' a bit would better protect the highlights on the dresses and then the greater dynamic range of the K5 would allow adjustment with the same or, maybe, less noise.

in RAW, the K5 really does have more dynamic range than the K7/20. with the K20, i don't recall running across a flat image that Needed a blackpoint set. with the K5, there have several images that just looked blah until i set the levels.

anyway, if the K7 is still making you happy, that is great. there wasn't anything i wanted over the K20 other than greater dynamic range. well, i have used the better live view a few times and did look forward to that. you have that in the K7.

What Donald is saying is with the instant preview after taking the shot you can view your clipping information but with the K5 you would have to exit and re-enter to see the clipping. This is also a function that I missed on my K5

Every couple of months he pops in to tell us how amazing his compact camera is - and why it's better than any DSLR he doesn't own. Imagine his 'studio' where is he is staring at "Live View blinkies" .... LOFL. He'll defend whatever he owns, no matter how out of touch with reality he is. Notice that you've not seen any actual photography from don.

Yes, it's what he's saying ...

... it's just that he's wrong. It takes a couple of clicks to set up LV to show histogram and bright/dark areas before shooting and to have them appear in the instant review after normal shooting. That's the way I have my K-5 set up. If you missed it on your K-5 it's because you missed the instructions, not because the camera doesn't do it.

Actually Don posts quite a lot of photos. He's mistaken in what he's saying here but he isn't a troll.

hi gerry, i forgot to add while it is connected to a hd screen, also the k5 doesnt stream in live view connected to a screen portrait framing in playback as well as review.

i suppose if you have never used it you wouldnt miss it, but when shooting events and time is money you need to get it right out of camera.
