I finally and reluctantly gave up on my 4/10 order for an S400 from Dell.

I am getting my S400 from Normancamera.com for $449, $40 more than my Dell coupon deal. Free ground shipping as they matched an offer I had fouhd elsewhere on the net. I much preferred getting it from Norman Camera than the other source.

Norman Camera is a brick and mortar store in Michigan that also sells on the Internet. A real photography store with people who know and care about photography. I first heard about Norman Camera in Bryan Biggers's Dimage Forum where it has a stellar reputation.

Pat at Norman Camera told me that they have many S400's in stock.

For me, the extra $40 was worth avoiding the anguish of waiting without a known end and actually getting the camera in hand before my kids' ebd-of-year school events start piling up. I wish I had the patience to wait it out.

I'm still waiting for a replacement (AF light) from Dell, and I got my first S400 the middle of March! I'll give them another week or 10 days then I'll bite the bullit too.

Did the same. Except i went to Circuit City, explained the whole Dell deal and said, give me your best price and i will buy it now. They knocked $50 off and i bought it then and cancelled the Dell.

You should be able to check it online. It shows up as a regular order in your account. They use 2-day shipping for these replacements. Too bad this wasn't Wednesday.

So what was the final CC price?

Hey..thanks Bob... I checked as you said and it was there. Mine has shipped also... yippeeee...

Of course, the order reflects that they charged me for it.. but.. that is probably not the case.. if it is I'll deal with that bridge later. Right now I'm just happy it shipped.
Thanks...

I ordered an S400 on april 7th. Got a shiping delayed letter telling me it would ship on June 23rd. I called to cancel the order and the rep said the cancel request would be processed within three days. The order status on their website said "shipped" later that afternoon. Surprise Surprise.

I would recommend that those of you waiting with these far out ship dates try cancelling your order --- I bet dell 'just misses' your cancel request and ships the camera out.

I was given a ship date of 6/04/03 for my order placed on 4/22/03 that I bought because of the great deal I found here.

I did not get an email saying it shipped but on the order status page today it said it shipped and my Visa card confirmed the charge

$384.15 shipped.....not a bad deal.... I am excited for Tues or Wed next week !!!!!

have faith all.....it was only 10 days as opposed to 42 as I was lead to believe

good luck

I don't even know off hand. It was a replacement for a defective unit. I think it was April 19th.. but, not positive without digging out my notes on the call.

Why would you think they are sitting on cameras? One of the biggest manageable expenses for a company is sitting inventory. They aren't sitting on anything if they can help it.

This isn't some guy trying to outwait people until they can't use a coupon for a good price, either. Dell is perfectly aware of the cost and value of it's promotions. They are the largest computer maker in the world. They are also having a big impact on perhipherals purchase too from my simple observations here and on on some big tech deal sites.

Dell has some problems to be sure which could be corrected in their real time order/inventory ability to track things... but they aren't sitting on anything.
I think your situation was just coincidence.

I called and was told my s400 shipped today, 2-day delivery! Even gave me my tracking number.

I ordered on 4/21/03. $389.15 delivered.

Me happy.
