Hi people. Can you give me an idea, what printer I should buy to print my photos. (Under $170). (Is the Epson Stylus Photo Ink Jet Printer - 825 - ok? or some other company will be better)
Thank you.

I am very happy with my Canon i850. Great pictures on Canon Photo Print Pro paper. It is also very fast for non-photo printing.

Replacement inks are relatively cheap (particularly on ebay)

I dont know about the Epson

I paid a bit more for my HP Photo Smart 7550 at $240, but have been quite pleased with it and my older HP, the 952c which it or it's upgraded version may be in the price range you are looking at.

Good luck!

I had the Epson. Great looking photos but terrible problems with clogging print heads. Wasted a lot of ink and money. Just purchased the HP 7350, really like it so far, I wanted the canon i950 but can not find one for 75 miles. I also can't find canon paper locally. I could order on the web but ,I like the conveniance of buying local. I can get the HP paper at Wal mart.

--I have the Canon i950 and it is a great printer but I have also heard the i850 is also a very good printer. I would try and scap up another $60 and go with the 950 if possible.

--I use Epson 8 X 10 prints and have made some good deals on Ebay for the Canon 4 X 6 paper. There are also some good sites were you can get good deals on Canon paper and that is delivered to your door.

Peter hello, another idea is to use a Walmart or Costco service. At $0.29
a print (4X6) it is hard to beat (250.00 / 0.20 is like 800 or so prints)
with 8 X 10's it is even hard to beat at $2.84/ print - by the time you
get good photo paper, photo inks etc. etc. Might be better of getting
a lowercost printer for web work and the such - then using Walmart etc. etc.
for the photos - my turn around time at Walmart is all of 15min.
another good thing - Walmart uses good high quality fuji crystal archive
paper - prints will last a long time.
However the new Canon i9100 would be nice to have since it will do
13 X 19 edge to edge - as soon as that comes out (now it is june)
I'll spring for that - but only because I can do 13 X 19.

I've got the HP Photosmart 7350. Almost the same printer that Lisa has, except it doesn't have the preview screen, and you can get it for about $100 less than the 7550. I'm very pleased with mine.

There have already been a few sold from people having looked at my prints - hard to imagine it being any better for what it costs. One thing, it is sensitive on paper though. Canon paper is great, and Target stores here have Burlington Photo Paper Pro that is perhaps even a little better than Canon. Avoid Kodak paper. Some tweaking of the settings in the printer driver really brings out the best too even with the Canon paper.

Hi Peter

I have the Epson 825 and although I don't print a lot, I am very happy with it. However, not printing a lot may be the reason I am.

I only use OEM inks and paper and I get excellent results. One being a panorama I printed on their Premium Low Luster Pro roll paper and as it was coming out of the printer, I had to pick up my jaw from the floor. Granted I'm not professionally trained, nor do I have a lot of experience with printing my own pictures. I Love it but as little as I print, I still use quite a lot of ink. I wish they were a little cheaper, or came in bigger tanks.

I also tried printing manipulated photos on watercolor paper (bump up the saturation a bit so it won't come out too drab) and other art paper with good results.

One thing though, I had a MS reader program that was in really bad conflict with the printer's card reader.

I hope this helps.

Omar

Hello. Thank you all for your input. I went To CCity and got this Epson 825. I can tell, the photo quality is awesome. Is sucking a lot of ink but, is very good.

Jr60004 yes my camera is back. Is working better then before. They replaced a switchboard, they did something to focusing, I can tell. My camera is focusing much faster then before, and is ready to GO. IT'S ALL-GOOD NOW.
Have a good day you all.

Just curious guys, can having a printer beat 0.29$ at the Walmart or 0.20$ at Sams?

Everytime I think of buying a printer the cost of ink and paper seems to make me feel that printing it online is a much better option.
What do you guys think.

You can't possibly beat that price but you can't beat the flexibillity of having your own printer either. It depends on your scope...

Bulk printing for all my friends goes to Costco or Black's. Fine printing of large, tweaked out things stays in the house. Small size ocasional printing is also done on my printer. You know the kind of when Oncle Moe drops by on the weekend and likes a few of your kid or vacation shots. You couldn't just drop everything and dart to Wall-Mart just for that...
As they say "your mileage may vary" (actually it WILL vary :-) )
Just my two cents...

Life is beautiful

You can get High Gloos Office depot Paper at cost (specail sale) of 23.5 for 8.5x11, cut itno 2 4x6 and 1 5x7 and each small paper is 8 cents. With High Quality refill kits (ink equivalent to Canon OEM) the cost of small print would be 10-15 cents each.

Wallmart is now charging 27 cents for 4x6!.. but if you print a lot of 8.5x11 ( 4$) savings can be big.

I have the Epson 820 (I think the only difference was the card reader in the 825). I was pleasantly shocked by the quality of prints on this printer. I use high quality photo paper (usually Kodak) or matte coated paper.

Generally I get my prints done at Walmart, though. It's more cost effective that way. Still, it's nice to have a printer handy to do things like my business cards, etc.

The best part is the reaction of non computer or new computer people when you tell them you printed it at home!
