Hello all,

Taking my first pictures w/ my beloved D7i. Trying to open a TIFF on PhotoShop 7, anf get the following error: "Could not open "" because of a disk error". Any other viewer, including windows explorer, opens this file without any problem. Any idea what's wrong.Do I need any kind of plug-in in order to open TIFF in PH7?

Thanks
David

no you don't need any plugins for photoshop to open tiffs. there may actually be some info missing from the files that photoshop needs. i've never had any problems opening up tiff's from my D7.

if your files have .tiff as the extension try changing them to .tif

the extension is .tif or .TIF, which shouldn't really matter.

Try reading a .tif from another drive.
Just an idea,

Here's a thought...

See if the TIF file extension is linked to a image application. I just checked in mine and there are two TIF extensions: one is TIF and the other is TIFF. Locate them in your Windows Explorer (i.e. File Manager). Go to: Tools > Folder Options > File Types and scroll down to the two TIFs mentioned. They should be listed as "TIF Image Documents." You can highlight them and go to Advanced and see if Photoshop.exe is linked to them. Maybe some other program has precedence?

(This is on a Windows 2000 machine, btw).

Good luck.

Any upper ASCII characters in the directory name?? I had a similar problem trying to open a file from a directory with polish characters in it. Windows could open th efiles just fine but PSP and PS always stated that the file could not be found. So much for unicode, eh?

One last thought - I know that Adobe has published a patch for PS 7 just as they did for PS 6. If you haven't downloaded and installed that patch, it may help. It's free. Installing the patch sure helped my copy of PS 6. - Bill Hansen

Is that on a Mac? I have got some wierd result with Mac computers...anything from just shuting down to not wanted to open an image.

what is PH? is that a shot version of PS?

I tried to install the patch but it failed for me. Kept asking for PS 7 and that it could not find it but it's there alright. Seems it does not recognize my PS 7 as being PS 7.

Daniella - There is a separate patch for PS 6.0 and a different one for PS 7.0. It could be that the patch for 6.0 isn't on the Adobe website any more. If you need it, e-mail me and I'll send it to you. - Bill

Daniella,

I think I read over at the retouching forum that Adobe has added code to PS7 and 7.01 to identify pirated serial numbers. If it finds a serial number that it believes is pirated, it will refuse to install. To remedy I think you have to call Adobe and provide proof of ownership to get a new valid number.
