Pentax have done a great job with the camera but the support software could be better. (comparing to the Canon S40 software)

"Photos on CD" software: It destroyed my Windows 2000 System after it deleted a system file.

The ACDSee software is nice and quick to use. Rotating the pictures seems very difficult for some a common feature.

Photostitch software doesnt seem to do a very good job. Maybe I need to play with the settings some more.

Reviewing pictures on the TV: They look very low res as if they are in some sort of preview mode. When I zoom in to 1.1x they then look really clear. Anyone else found this?

I have to say that most of the software bundled with cameras in my experience tends to be light on features and reliability.

I have recently bought the Optio 550 and haven't even taken the software out of the box.

I use Photoshop or Paintshop pro for editing and Compupic pro for image management.

In my opinion stiching images together or puting them on the TV is a bit of a gimmick

I've noticed the low-resolution image at 1.0x that clears at 1.1x or higher. It looks like the camera is using a low resolution image (thumbnail) for 1.0x views (probably that matches their LCD), then decompresses the actual image when zooming.

Ben, I have noticed the low-res pics on the TV also. I have reported it to Pentax. Zooming to 1.1 fixes it. Hopefully it is not a planned feature, and it will be fixed in the future. The more that report it to Pentax, the better.

All-in-all, I'm very happy with the camera. I haven't used it much yet, but I am going on vacation tomorrow and hope to give the camera a lot of use.

Surely, your television is only 600-odd by 400-odd pixels, so if you view your pictures at this resolution they will be 'low res' zooming in will have the effect of making them sharper

The output from my Canon A50 1.3 meg camera looks great on the TV. The output from my 550 at all resolutions (640x480 thru 5meg) looks horrible on the TV until zooming to 1.1x. This seems more of a firmware matter that should/could be corrected.

Anyone who doesn't have this problem, please post. Otherwise let Pentax know. I consider this just an annoying fluke. I still love the camera.
