I just dropped my D60 off at KEH today, and ordered a 10D from CompUSA. I wonder what'll happen if I run my D60 service program with the cable connected to the 10D?
BTW: Before I bought my D60, I checked with the parts department to ensure that the service manual was available to end users. I was assured that it was.
When I called to order it a month later, I was given that "only to authorized servicers" line. I insisted that I had bought the camera based on the promise that the manual WAS available, and they finally relented.
Other idea: If you have the part number, just bury in an order with some other items, such as a spare LCD window, battery hatch, etc. (If someone has these part numbers already, please post them. )

or anyone who has bought from there already. Just ask for availabilty on a D60 part number you know and shift the conversation to the 10D. You may have to lie too.

Thanks, Doug, I will try these tactics. I would love to have 10D service manual, although I don't have any problems with my 10D. Just in case, and just to play with it.

As I said, Canon need clear evidence from owner to prove their units have flaw. I think we finally win because of internet forum like here and others where people share their knowledge and experience in finding facts. I sure Canon had read this forum and others and they can't hide away from their responsibility.
Where is PearlRider?
I hope we could discuss DSLR here in a rational and friendly atmosphere, and hope we enjoy photography as well as our tools, which not all the time good enough, especially for these sophiscated high tech. equipment.
I hope we don't use "Do not buy 10D" or "it's a troll" statement as the title, we just tell the facts and try to find out solution together.

I would think the BEST thing is to send the camera in and let Canon determine what's broken and what isn't. Unless you've been through school for this type of work and have progressed through their factory training classes, they wouldn't take your word for it. And as for Canon reading this forum, that MIGHT be true but the best thing is to contact them directly. Log a complaint so they can add it to their stats.

I guess I'm just psychic. ;-)
Actually, a friend of mine DID inquire about that very thing and I can't remember the exact cost but it was quite expensive to become certified by Canon. You have to go through the WHOLE enchilada.

What I mean start again is we start to discuss things in a friendly and rational armosphere, not the same as what happened before.
Sorry my wording is not clear enough and a bit confusing.
I just need that darn Multiple Tool II. I'm very disappointed that I can't adjust my E-TTL without it. I bet anyone who can change oil on his or her own car can do it easily.

The tool's required to CALIBRATE it. But can you ADJUST it without it?
Who needs the danged tool. Just shoot a gray card (spot-metered) until the histogram is in the right spot.
This assumes your ISO is adjusted properly, of course (yes, there's an adjustment for THAT on the 1D)

The camera simply would not connect without the tool. I did a dry run, and it was as easy as moving a slider. Worse yet, I don't think the tool is really needed except for focuse adjustment. I think changing E-TTL compensation only updates a EPROM value.
I also want to change my image prefix to something like BABE and change my image counter to a huge number-all impossible without that tool!

No, I have not. By looking at its icon on the splash screen, I bet it'll cost more than a new 1Ds. I could be wrong though, so I may give them a call tomorrow...

Canon HK told me that there will be a whole new lot of 10D coming next Monday. I think it will take one of two weeks for the retailers to have them. It is time to buy one now. I am not in HK for two days, which I borrowed a D60 for fun. I will buy a new 10D next week. Reasons: 1)there could be higher chances of getting a good unit now. 2)Canon HK will be much easy for issues, if any, from then on. Good luck.
