Sigma's no response to Emails

I have Emailed Sigma three times in the past two months,as yet have
not received a response to any of them....if they can't or don't
want to answer my inquiries, at least say so ,but don't completely
ignore them.In the Emails, I stated I liked the Foveon technology,
and was very interested in purchasing the SD9,however I had a few
questions(that only Sigma could answer)that I would like
answered, before making my decision to buy......very dissappointed
in their not responding....if this is the way they treat
prospective customers, they will, and most likely have, a very
difficult time competing in the DSLR market.... I hope the Foveon
technology survives...presently, I will not buy a DSLR without a
Foveon Sensor....Frank

This is a great argument to avoid the Sigma SD9. Lets hope the
next foveon chip come in a real camera body (Nikon/Canon).
I assume you haven't actually either used the SD9 or if so, haven't used it properly. I am getting some superb results that will stand up on display next to those from my 5"x4".

I chose the SD9 because of two factors. One was the Foveon sensor and the facility to work from the finmest RAW files and the second was to have to hand a camera that easily works, for me, in manual mode for the best quality results. It also, as a point of interest, works well for those wanting auto facilities - I just choose to use the manual mode.

I have foiund most people knocking the SD9 have never handled one - it is not a plasticky, flimsy affair but a solid piece of quality equipment. Every photographer coming here on technical workshops has expressed amazement at the camera handling and the results having previously convinced themselves - based on remarks like yours - that it couldn't be any good. Of a recent ten people, seven have now got themselves the SD9 - the other three already had a different digital SLR.

They responce the answer of my e-mail within 24 hours.
I have been sent and received some e-mail about my service issue.

because, I have been sent my camera to sigma crop to clean the ccd and some repair (my SD9 is broken by dropping).

They say very kindly that arriving price extimation, process of repair, and some other issues.
and Almost issue is cleared in a day by their quick response system.
I don't live in the same country of Simga Corp.

But, Some messages within a hours because the time difference is only 1 hours between me and sigma corp.
They have very quicker service and response system than other company, I think.
Please check the e-mail address.

I imagine they don't know how to answer my questions...I don't own the SD9 yet,and won't until I get an answer to my questions...it seems they only answer questions of people who already own the camera, and have service problems, which is very commendable, yet I believe as a prospective customer I deserve some kind of answer, which after all this time I will probably never receive....Frank

Well you got your answers here but I am sure you won't get a comment on those topics from Sigma. Roughly for the same reasons Laurence already posted somewhere in this thread.

Dominic is quite right, as was Laurence much earlier in the thread.

You cannot really expect Sigma or any company for that matter to answer questions on their marketing and policy matters. I am sure (from my experience) that they will willingly answer queries on actual camera, lenses and other technical issues but honestly, if you ran a company, would you answer queries from anyone - owner or not of equipment - about policies? Don't be unfair in criticising them for not answering matters of internal policy.

Give Sigma a call.

The other day, i found 2 specs of dust inside my lens.... They weren't showing up in pictures, but it bothered me to see the spec in my lens. I called Sigma on the phone, and asked if it were alright if i bring my lens in to their HQ so they can clean it for me. The woman said it would be no problem, and if i came in early in the morning, that they would be able to service it on the spot:) Fortunately for me, my folks live near Ronkonkoma NY, their US HQ, and i'll be going there next weekend.

Just chim'n in my two cents... I think they're great for customer service, and i'm very pleased with my cam.

As I already indicated I noticed something about that here in Germany, Lens problems are far better handled and Calling might be the better idea (email response of sigma germany were not too good)

I think it was Laurence that said, they could have come up with a stock answer, and not completely ignore the 3 messages, and at least acknowledge the receipt of the Emails.....I have decided to wait for a new model DSLR with a Foveon sensor, whether it be Sigma or someone else......thanks to all the great images posted on this forum, which helped me decide to go with a Foveon sensor....Frank

Laurence:
Being physically close, maybe you can provide me with some information?

How do the typical prices of high quality camera lenses from Nikon and Canon compare with US prices? A Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L lens sells in the US for about $1400. Any "rough" idea what the Euro price would be in a big city store in Germany?
Thanks

I am not Laurence but here is what it is like in Germany...

I don't know about the exact prices in big city stores but from my experience they are much higher than the prices you find in German online stores.

This lens sells in german online stores for about 1.850 to 1950 Euro (2050-2150 US$) and one of the better shops did not even offer it. About 2000 Euro seems to be the price in a big shop in Düsseldorf (the person who said this was not 100% sure). Another example, the Sigma 15-30 EX sells onlie for about 700-750 Euro (790-830 US$). So you see we are in big trouble here :)

Dominic is a better source for Germany.

Swiss prices are about the same. We pay less tax but more for service. You can figure that our discounted price in Switzerland is at best about 10% of full list in the States for most camera equipment.

I have yet to find a true "street price" operation in Europe. (Hint to entrepreneurs!)

I also E-mailed a message to Sigma last week. The E-mail was "replied" by Tom Sobey without adding a word. I think, despite having a customer service E-mail, they have deliberately chosen not to reply any.....FM

Not to dwell on old news, but the last sentence of this posting explains a lot.

I had no problem with Sigma or Foveon to respond to me. They took maybe an hour for both and they answered my questions and even sent me a CD with some of their shots with the SD9. I'm really surprised at your lack of response from both. If Sigma wont respond send Foveon a question and even though I'm not a major company wanting to use their chip in a camera, they were just as curtious as any company I have ever seen.-

Send a mail to Sigma in a different country where you live, then you will get answer from the importer in your country, I did that, it works.
