V1 review Up @ Imaging Resource

In this review, it was mentioned that they would be getting a production model soon. Perhaps Phil has one on hand already.

Greg

How are you? Im the guy that bought and since sold your 5700. I currently have an Olympus 5050. Are you dumping the 717 for the V1? When is that puppy due out? Im going to Sedona on May 10!

What do you think?
Pompous BS, Sony bashing, written to fill the empty space around the ads on a commercial website, that's what I think. For example:

"I'll begin here with my conclusion: This could well be the digicam that finally earns Sony the respect of the "enthusiast" crowd. The upper end of Sony's Cyber-shot line have long sported features the equal of many high end models from other manufacturers, but until now, it's never seemed to me that their top-end units really got the respect they deserved from the true 'enthusiasts.'"
What a load of hot air. Wait for a real review from Phil.

Here are some pictures taken with V1 (pre-production model I suppose):

Yep, I've seen that one. It's very likely pre-pro. No one seems to have a production camera yet.
Loking at the pictures one could see that it suffers from CA
but perhaps not as badly as Canon G3. What do you think?
CA is not as easy to call for as you might think. For example, ALL cameras suffer nearly equally from CA when they're shot at wider apertures. For example, any prosumer camera's CA will virtually disappear when the aperture is narrower than F3.2; wider than that, and you'll see problems in certain situations. There is only one shot in that gallery that would really qualify, but it's not shot in a high-contrast situation, and so you see only a little CA at the left edge of the image.

In the G3, CA is no more a problem than it is in any other camera, but it gets a bad rap for it. You see nearly the same amount in the F717, interestingly. Phil's review confirms it is a non-issue overall.

I don't see any bashing in the paragraph you quoted. In fact it is a pretty accurate description of the way things are. Looks like he is saying Sony produces a much better camera than the enthusiast crowd(read many Nikon, Canon users) give them credit for. Hardly bashing sony.

Hey,

Where did you purchase your DSC-V1? Which retailer?

I am looking to purchase one too but so far have forced myself to wait for some reviews of the camera. All the current reviews make it out to be really good. I just dont want to buy it now then be dissapointed later. Please do tell me what made you go ahead and buy it...and would you recomend that I do too?

Thanks,
K!

I don't see anything negative about that article either. He was observing and reporting on what many people think.

I do agree that I would rather wait for Phil. He is the one reviewer who doesn't glaze things over with sweetness. If there is anything he doesn't like you know about it. That makes the read more educational. Nothing is 100% wonderful. If somebody says it is you know they are pulling your leg.
Too bad we will all have our cameras when the review comes out. :-(

Many are taking pre-orders including Office Depot and Amazon.com. What I want to buy is that VHA-VHD filter adapter. I want that in my hands before I buy the camera. What if the adapters are not available at first?

My point is that if the V1 doesn't work well with filters it is going back within it's return period and I will eat the loss on the adapter.

yep. and we also know Sony is not 'inactive'
in the last stages of product development.
Gotta be honest with you. I'm not expecting images any better than those from the F717, and probably to some extent a little less crisp. The smaller photosite size will probably mean more noise unless Sony engineers perform some fancy tricks and advancements with their NR. And the lens isn't as big or as fast as that of the F717.

This is not a bad thing, but I'm expecting this to be a rather predictable camera image-wise. It's main selling point is that it has a feature set much like the F717, only in a pocket size model. Oh, and there is the flash for those that need one.

--Hi K! I can't recommend this camera because It has not been released yet. But I have ordered mine because I truly believe it will be a very good camera to go along with it's big brother the 717. We also have a Sony P-7 and it has been a fantastic camera that takes pictures just as good as the G-3 if not better so I figure this V-1 will be better I hope. If I was a wise man I would wait until the camera has been out awhile and see how it goes but then again I have never been know for my smarts. I have pre ordered from http://www.techonline.com

JohnK -

You're totally misreading what the guys at Imaging Resource are saying. They're acknowledging that Sony hasn't gotten its due credit as a camera company, but that the quality of their products for the past couple of generations have really been proving those opinions wrong.

They really like the Sony cameras (believe me), and they like the V1 in particular for what it brings to the table now. It's a new class of camera.
