Where does your camera strap go?

I have both hand and neck strap on a 1Ds, I like the hand strap, when walking I prefer to swing it around my left shoulder.

However, when shooting that damn neck strap is in the way, I would love to learn if there is a better way. I suppose if I had the neck strap around my neck when shooting it wouldn't be in the way.

interesting question DavidP!

take care

too much to carry!! but a lot of fun to use

I twist and wrap it around my right wrist. There it can hang freely, or I can keep a grip on it. That way, if I do need to put it around my neck I can do it quickly.

But when walking about it's slung. If I have two bodies etc. I remember to take the boss/assistant so she can help.. lol

Note here the boss has it slung over the shoulder and cups it gently with both hands.

Please answer in the title of your reply:

1) Around the neck

2) Around the shoulder

3) strap? what strap?

Choose one only -- elaborate in the text reply if you choose.

And use (nt) if you aren't adding anything other than your reply.

Why am I doing this? Just curious!

if you take the time to do something urgent, make sure it is important .............................

If the neck strap is in the way, and if you have a grip (integrated or not) on the camera, try this: instead of attaching the right-side strap to the TOP of the camera, attach it to the bottom of the grip.

Works much better for me.

Would you have a heart attack if she carried it over her shoulder, WITHOUT holding it in her hands?

I know I would.

I have a few small bags that will hold the camera with particular lenses attached. I carry the camera/lens in the bag over my shoulder, but don't keep a strap on the camera itself.

90% of the time, I have the two loop ends from my Optech Pro Loop strap hooked together to make a very short strap I use to carry the camera at arm's length. This works, even with the Sigma 50-500 (as long as it isn't extended).

she was just holding it for me while I sorted the car out.....

so I took the snap...... Yep, I take snaps of a 1Ds with a 1D . . .

I like to indulge myself... lol

She got really tired lugging the 1D and the 100-400 around. I walked around the Zoo with this and we attracted a lot of attention (as you have also pointed out from experience)

The biggest surprise for 99% of questioners is that it's all digital. Some don;t even believe it even when shown the LCD. Once seen they then ask if it takes good movies,,,,,,, I always say yes, but not with these lenses.....
I gotta learn THAT trick. LOL.

If you really want to attract attention, carry around the 500/4 IS on a tripod all day. Imagine this slung over my shoulder:

Plus I had a 100-400 IS and another 1D body strapped on in front of me, along with another lens, spare batteries, microdrives, etc.

Oh, and the 500/4 IS had a 550-EX attached to it, too.

Wahoo -- what a site.

If somebody got a picture of me carrying all that stuff (with the tripod slung over my shoulder), I wish they'd send me the photo. LOL.

Forget about the strap. You need a stroller ;-)

Yes, I use it and like it. I ordered mine from Op/Tech itself I believe. Sometimes I take the long strap off and use the short strap and the hand grip strap that I also have.
