Olympus C2100

I see no chromatic aberrations on this. Is this the full 10x? Did you touch it up at all? Have you seen much chrom. aberration? How far along the zoom doe sit occur? 2x 4x 8x or only at full zoom? Again, this eagle looks crystal clear. I want this camera so bad, I just don't want to be disappointed with poor image quality at full zoom. Andreas, can you post every shot you have done somewhere? I know you just git the camera, but we must live vicariously!
Andreas -- I just saw your eagle picture on Steve's POTD. Great!
Thanks!
How far
away
were you?
I guest it was around 2-3m
And was that done at full zoom and hand-held with the stabilizer?
Yes, full zoom, hand-held and stabilizer. It did a good job.

Best regards,

Andreas

Andreas,
Thanks for your opinions.

Sony F505V. I did briefly consider this but struck this out due to proprietary memory and batteries. Don't want to be forced to buy extra batteries and memories that I can't use anywhere else.

Nikon CP990.

Cons: No rechargable batteries included. 3X optical. No remote. Add-on lens e.g. tele lens expensive. Viewfinder coverage inadequate.
Pros: Excellent features and macro.

Oly C-2100UZ.

Pros: Batteries and remote. Smartmedia (also used in MP3 players). Super 10X optical zoom. Good features for amatuer use. SLR-like for TTL viewing.
Cons: Can't think of any yet

Only snag is, can't seem to find a good supply of C-2100UZ's. Only a couple of retailers carry them. They have already been out for over a month now. Wonder what's holding the show up?

John,

In the USA, they just started shipping on Monday, 10/2.

I got mine overnight from PC Connection. I like the fast shipping but I don't like the fact that they left the $1000 box in front of my apartment door until I came home.

Hmm, I almost had a heart attack when I saw the box sitting lonely and unattended at my door!
Michael, where did you get yours? Mine's on order from Ritz, but they
say it won't ship until Oct. 13. If I can find one now, I'll cancel the
order and pick one up.
Dave, I bought mine through PC Connection (www.pcconnection.com) - along
with accessories - and it arrived here on October 2. Local stores (NJ),
including Ritz, Best Buy, CompUSA, drive me insane. Most of the kids
never heard of it. PC Connection is less expensive, easier on the
nerves, and ships overight.

Yes!

If you are refering to the pic at Steves- Digicam i haven't retouched it.
Have you seen much chrom. aberration?
In this shot surprisingly not! But there is CA under various circumstances.

I don't understand. Please explain! (Sorry i am german native)

To judge the image quality in gerneral, wait for an in depth review of this cam
( e. g. on this site or take a look at the already published reviews).

Take a look here ( you will find some original images of the C2100)

I've had my 2100 for a couple of days now. I too was very worried about the level of C.A. but after using the camera I'm very happy. CA is present is some shots, it is quite unpredicable and can happen over most of the zoom range. I have yet to take a picture where the CA is (to my eyes anyway) objectionable.

After using quite a few digicams in my time I can say that I'm happiest with the C2100 !!

Hi,

Does the stabilizer offer any significant improvement at full zoom? It is one of the features that I find the most intriguing. Thanks
Hi,

I just picked up my C2100 this afternoon. I would like to know if there are
already "impressions" with it ?

Best regards,

Andreas

In my opinion it does a great job. Okay it has its limits but i consider it
as a great help.

If you live in Brussel i can help you not to pay the TVA ( that is 21% of the price ) :-) realy . . .

I myself live in Belgium and am desperate to find a cheaper deal then
current: import-firm says 59.990BF (2.900DM or $1300) and cheapest
retailer to date is 57.500BF (2.800DM or $1250), quite alot more
expensive than in the USA for example (where I've seen deals of $950 and
less) :-(

I presume the warranty in Germany and Belgium are the same, let's hope
the manual will not only be in German though :-)

TIA !

What I was asking was whether or not the chromatic aberration occurs only beyond certain focal lengths. For instance, evrything looks good when you zoom from2x-6x(for instance) but then problems occur when you go from 7x-10x... From your post and others, this doesn't seem to be the case. It seems its sort of random and situational dependent.

Okay, i understand.

CA will appear in the whole range of the focal length. Of course it is not casual. Let us wait what the review on this site shows as the result.
Phil Askey has the disadvantage that he has to investigate all these things
very analytically.

Well, I finally ordered in Germany, at http://www.valatech.com - they were prettry cheap (amongst the cheapest I could find), do not requite pre-payment and have the camera in stock (I should be getting mine on monday).

So for the same price (a bit more then 58.000 BF) I will be getting an extra of 2 32Mb SmartMedia-cards and a battery-pack + charger. Germany is the place to be for us Belgians I'm afraid...

Good luck,
Chris.

Thank you for information, i sent an email to them allready- the problem is that i don't speak german and the webpage in only in Ge :-((
The price that you told me (58000 bef) is with smart media cards ?
Anyway, i will keep you inform

I am also looking forward to see a review of c2100 here.

I have seen the review at steves-digicams.com buut that review is like the manufacturer's advertisement. All he does is write a small manual for the camera and say how much fun he had. He does not even mention the world image quality.
There is a full review at Steves Digicams. See:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/c2100.html

I applied the new Qimage fringe filter to the image of the balcony that
you posted on Zing. It improved the fringing quite a bit. Not 100%,
but the picture is much more acceptable after applying the filter.
You could start with your own impressions :)
Well,

Here is one (after reading the review of the CD1000 here on this site i
am glad that the C2100 is not alone). It suffers from significant
chromatic abberation especially at full zoom. I am looking very forward
to the review of the C2100 here on this site (if there will be one).

The reason for me to add the C2100 to my cam collection was the 10x
stabilized lens. As i have read here before, you get what you paid for.
So it is a
compromise.

Best regards,

Andreas
