Lexar Rebate Ripoff

After waiting 3 months, I just received a rebate check for $20. It should have been for $40 since I bought TWO 128K memory sticks. The rebate coupon clearly stated, "Limit two rebates per name, address, receipt or household," but they only sent me a rebate for one memory stick. An e-mail to the rebate center about the matter resulted in a "form letter" response that never addressed my question. Even worse, the back of the check I received states that if I cash it, that will represent "absolute payment of any and all underlying obligations." That means that if I cash the $20 check, I'll forfeit my right to seek the remainder of the rebate due me through legal action. Has anyone else received only half of your rebate? If so, did you manage to pry the rest of your money out of Lexar's hands and how did you do it?

Just a thought but since they are separate rebates they may send separate checks.

Just to put your problem in context, here in the UK a Lexar 128Mb stick retails for 50GBP ... roughly 70USD. We have no rebate deals. You guys should count yourselves lucky !

Good luck with getting the rest of your money ...

Yep, same thing happened to me. I wrote them when I got an email saying I was getting $20. They said to send proof of my 2 purchases. I did. Still only got $20. From what I read on this forum, we should consider ourselves lucky we even got the $20. I wrote to the rebate company again and to Lexar. No response so far. Lexar rebates are a total ripoff from everything I've read or experienced.

My checks arrived yesterday (roughly a 3-month wait).

Roger, did you get an email confirmations of the two rebates you sent in? At the web site link the emails refer to, it states that you will receive a separate postcard rebate check for each memory stick. With luck, the other postcard will arrive today or soon and you'll be all set. If you did get emails from the rebate firm, check the web site links to confirm that each was accepted and what the status is. If all goes well, the first message (received a few weeks after mailing the rebate to them) states that your rebate was accepted and to expect a check to be sent in 30 days. The next revision to the web site link (about 40 days later) changes the statement to listing the check # and that you should expect to see the check(s) in the mail in the next 10-15 days.

I guess I was VERY lucky! After also waiting 3 months for my two $20 rebates, I finally received both of them a couple days ago. However, it took two months from the time I they advised me via e-mail that my rebate had been approved and the time I actually received the checks. That's after they said I would receive the rebate checks in the next week couple of weeks. I'm just glad I finally received them after the LONG wait, especially after hearing what they've put many others through, like you Roger.

No more Lexar rebates for me - I'm waiting for the price to drop to $25 WITHOUT having to go through this rebate fiasco.

Well, I wrote to the Rebate house and to Lexar. Never heard from the rebate house but got this today from Lexar

Dear Becky,

First, I would like to apologize for all of the inconvenience and disappointment you have had with our company. I assure you that we are working on raising the bar on our standards and rebate policies. I was able to locate your account within the system and BOTH checks are in the process of being issued and sent to you. Track ID# xxxxxxxx is valid and you should expect it within 10-15 BS days. That rebate was entered in on 2-19-03. Seeing that normal processing time is 6-9 weeks, your check is due to arrive any day now.

The second check is on it's way as well. This is Track ID# xxxxxx. However, this rebate was not entered until 4-8-03. For what reason, I don't know. That is not our business, it has to do with the Rebate House. You can speak to them with any issues you have. Expect this check to arrive within the next 30 days. OK??

I am sorry we have let you down. Just remember that this corporation is worldwide and we deal with so many people, that it is almost impossible to avoid mistakes and flaws. Thank you Becky for your patience with Lexar Media.

At least Lexar did respond and supposedly I will get my other check. Rebates shouldn't be so much work and aggravation.

I received my two postcard checks Saturday. This is because I sent them an email about it. My partner still has not gotten his checks although he did get a "the checks are in the mail" e-mail.

I called 866-703-0537 this morning (don't know if it was the rebate house or Lexar, but I believe it was the former). I was told to fax (317-805-5581) them my copies of the receipt, barcodes, etc., and they would send me the remaining $20 within 48 hours. If they don't, I'll be back here to ***** about it. I don't know why we consumers have to put up with so much grief with this nonsense. Thanks to all of you who have given me your moral support.

Steve,

YOU guys are getting the better deal. Chasing $70 worth of
rebates (in my case) and spending hours at email and on the
phone, as well as time and travel to get satisfaction from a
store manager, is an agony you don't want to endure. These
Lexar rebate pricks are walking the fine line of legality and I
hope and pray they are prosecuted for it.

Hi Steve,

Sorry, I think you misunderstood ... each stick costs us 70USD ... and there is no option for a rebate.

Hi Steve,

I understood perfectly. I think I'd rather pay $70 and let
that be the end of it. Since there is a rebate, you feel like
a fool if you don't take advantage of it (apparently 90% either
don't bother or fail to satisfy the tricky rebate requirements
properly). But, in the case of Lexar it has been more trouble
than it's worth. You end up frustrated and pi$$ed off. Did I
mention angry? I feel like they owe me $500 for what I've
been through.
