Just got my A70 today :-)

I got mine yesterday. I'm also trying to figure out what to expect.

My LCD shows some horizontal lines related to zooming. They're
most visible after the zoom is complete. I suspect this is normal,
and is just the camera's processor adapting to the new setting.

When I press the shutter the screen goes blank, which I guess could
be considered interference! Then you get the review shot for two
seconds.

My A70 also shows horizontal lines when zooming and pressing the shutter botton. But they are barely noticeable in my opinion

banan911,

Thanks for posting the box contents and sample pictures. They look great.

I am looking forward to checking out the A70 when they become available in Australia.

Regards.

Hi everyone,

Got my A70 last week after reading the excellent review at:

http://www.dcresource.com/index.shtml .

My previous camera was the Nikon 775 which is a good first time camera. It sometimes took great pictures but more often than not pics would be out of focus because of the terrible shutter lag. The very little shutter lag on this camera won it for me.

Will be able to test it fully when i visit Portmeirion Village Hotel (where they filmed the 1966 series The Prisoner) at the end of the month.

The cheapest place i found in the UK online was here at CPW.UK - £212.63

I have to say i havn't noticed the horizontal lines on the LCD screen when using the zoom. When the zoom is complete, for a very split second there appears faint horizontal lines but they dont stay there.

Thanks to all who answered my question. It's good to know that these horizontal lines are not a sign of a faulty camera.

Regards

You didn't by chance get the wide angle adapter did you?

Wondering how large it is ... it's nice that it gives one the equivalent of a 24 mm ... but some of the wide angle adapters for digi cams are rediculously large! :-(

Thank you banana911 for sharing your experience. I'd be intersted in more closeup sample photos as in your cactus shot. This was a weak feature in the A20 and A40 so it seems that the A70 has made improvement here.

No Problem - If any of you have some other things you want me to do
with the A70 please post :-)

It's terrific news. Then it can be used with a secondary flash thru a digital slave!
So it does have multiple stop between min and max. A good thing...

Now if only it can stay at 4.8 (or smaller aperture) through out
the zoom range.
--------------

I just testet the aperture settings, and at max zoom you can choose
from F4,5 F5,6 F6,3 F7,1 F8,0. Without zooming you can
choose the whole range :-)

Hi,

I suspect it is just a matter of power consumption... I had it using the supplied AA alkaline, it disappeared using 1850mAh NiMh... maybe the stepper motor for the zoom + the LCD absorb too much, and then the lines (noise) pops up...

If you have any questions about it - please post.

Thomas
Thomas (or anyone else) - have you noticed any anomalies with color? I bought my A70 a week ago and it seems to have problems reproducing blues. In both natural and artificial light, blues seem to be paler than the real-life color. This is apparent both in the preview LCD and the final image, and it does not appear to be a white balance issue. I'm wondering if this is a general problem, or if I have a poorly calibrated camera.

Thanks

I´d like to see a picture of the camera handheld. Try shooting at a mirror or something. The point is: I wanna see how it´s like in matters of size (compared to your hand), etc!

Despite of the silver construction, is it "discreet"? No that this a true concern...I´m just curious!
Congrats on you new camera!

Best regards!

PS: My A60 is coming!!

How manny F-stops does it have? And is it constant throught the
zoom range?

I know the A40 has only 2 fstops (max and min) and it varies when
zooming. This could make adding a digital slave + automatic flash
difficult since most require the aperature to be constant.
The A70 (and A60 as far as I know) have 1/3 stop increments on the APERTURE (NOT aperature). Since the wide open f-stop at 3x telephoto is only 4.8, if you have it set for a numerically lower f-stop at wide angle and zoom in, the actual f-stop will go up numerically (and be reflected in the LCD display when you half-press the shutter). If you have it set for an f-stop of 4.8 or (numerically) higher, it'll remain at that f-stop. The highest (numerical) f-stop that you can set at any focal length is f8.

I've got an A70 today and I am playing with it right now. Can you
tell me if the LCD screen shows some interferences when you press
the shutter button or the zoom lever, please ? Is this normal ?
Yes, that is normal, especially in low light conditions, when the gain is turned up on the CCD. My S100 did it and my A70 also does it.

I have sample pictures of A70. All of them were taken handheld. Considering I am very new to digital camera or just camera in general pictures came out ok.
