Sorry to recomend an L series lens

Try the 17-35mm, now Canon have bought the 16-35mm out you might be able to pick up a second hand one "cheap"....well cheaper than a new one :-)

It's a great lens

I've never had any problems with it....it's been around for the last 7 years, so it can't be that bad (same life span as the 20-35, which this lens replaced 04/96 for a wider model, much the same as the 16-35 has replaced it now), I've owned one for the past 4 years and use it constantly.

I use it as much as my other 28-70 and my 70-200 and it's never needed servicing, unlike the other 2 lenses, and it's the only lens I constantly use with all it's original parts.

I don't have an issue with the quality of the images or the build quality....It's no longer the newest lens which was why you should be able to pick one a lot cheaper than a new 16-35

Where did you hear that silliness? I did exactly what Graham suggested and bought a used 17-35 a couple of months ago, I think that the lens is incredible, yeah I paid more for it used than third party new, but well worth the $$
