I post a picture (two days ago) taken with my Minolta 7i and ask for opinions... Guess I wasn't popular enough to get more than one reply as of last night. Then today the thread is gone... Do you have to be part of someone's inner circle to be part of this board?

Gary, I tried clicking on your profile to see the allegedly ignored posting, but nothing that may look like it shows in the list. I never had problems with my postings. This sounds odd.

Cheers,

Absolutely not, I don't know what happened either, if you looked a page or two back, that is strange. No one here can remove your post. (regular forum participants)

I thought I saw your thread, very odd. Repost it. You will get a comment or two from freelancers like me! :-)

I've noticed over the past few months, this forum has attracted too

many GURU's. People who love atttention and develope a "following". Now

many of them , who think the forum can't live without them are trying

to make it a sub branch of the CANON forum. Looking in here is almost

like a religious CANON D-10 crusade, with everyone saying "AMEN".

Almost no room for those who want to talk MINOLTA. What toys they

buy or what they do with them borders on "trolling" for converts. IMHO!!

Hi Gary,
Found your post back: Page 3. It is still there.
It does not show up after clicking on your name.

I did look at your picture but I kept silent while it is not my taste: If there is a hell it would look like your pic :-)
Glad you asked: Nothing wrong or special or strange with this board.

But if you don't appreciate something and write it down, the words can hurt so easily.

Few days ago there was somebody who asked if he had made a good shot. It was the back of an animal. If you looked closely you could see three scars between the hairs. Seemed me a cat after a fight, because the wounds where triangular, no shot wounds. The idea of shooting at a cat made me sick. I would delete that pic as soon as possible but till my amazement there where many cat lovers who appreciated that picture and the scars were even not noticed. I was glad not have spoiled the party.

I am sure there are people who appreciate your picture, but the medium is fast and when on page 2 it is over and out mostly: Just bad luck.
Enjoy your camera and your pictures.
Hans

Truth here.

Some for you Hans.

Hope you liked them. :-)

Please, please please, give it a rest!!!!!! Have we not flogged this topic to death. Clifford read some of the previous threads and you will see that the vast majority of people here are happy with these thoughts on competitors' cameras and how they compare to the Minolta models.

Let's get on with life.

There is always a tendency for groups to fragment into cliques, and for the focus of most to be on a few members. Chimps probably do just the same. I have been away for a few weeks so did not see this picture at the time and can't find it now, but would bet that if it had been posted by one of the leading lights it would have had lots of comments. One of the things you need to do to get noticed is to post plenty and to always add a link to your postings. Publicity is the key nowadays as with the modern artists who can't paint but do a good line in preserved calves and condom littered beds. Get your name in the tabloids and you have made it.

David.

Hans, none of my cats have any scars, :-))) I have raised them all from Kittys, I have a thousand dollars in two cats alone. I don't see where you are thinking you see a scar. It must be the compression or something. Please post the cat in your response!

Thanks for sharing your cat, here is another. (not as good! ;()

I find it also hard to comment on photos that I do not like because it's too easy to offend someone in the process. I usualy skip the post. But if there is not much responses to a photo, it is usualy a good indication that it is not very good.

That's how I see it. A better place to post to get honest criticts is at photosig.com, as the site exist only for that purpose and it is not a friendly group with feelings :)
Glad you asked: Nothing wrong or special or strange with this board.

You are full of $hit, and I can prove it.

For starters, here's a breakdown of the threads on the first page:

12 threads directly Minolta related
6 about what is or is not appropriate to post on this forum
4 about pictures
3 about general photography-related things
2 about relative merits of DSLR's of various makes versus Minolta 7 series
3 about other miscellaneous topics

"Almost no room for those who want to talk MINOLTA," eh?

Ol' Clifford might be a bit of a n00bie when it comes to Internet forums, so here's something you might want to know: 12/30 = 40%, which is an amazingly high S/N ratio for an unmoderated forum -- and here the S/N ratio is calculated the strictest possible way. You may not consider my photography experience worth much, but I do know a thing or two about Internet forums: I've been around them since 1992, starting with rec.arts.books.tolkien on the Usenet.

Now, let's see what ol' cranky Cliff has been up to, since he says he's so keen to talk MINOLTA [sic].

So, here's a breakdown of Cliffy's postings made in the past month:

3 affirming faith in the D7UG (with no substantive comment)
3 miscellaneous (it's "moderator," by the way, not "modulater.")
2 bitching about the supposed "Canonization" of this forum
2 Minolta-related (1 of which an answer to a direct question from yrs trly)
1 general photography related

So, 2 out of 11 posts with actual substantive comment about Minolta cameras. That puts Cliff's S/N ratio at 18.1%.

Recall that the forum's overall S/N ratio was 40%.

Oo, Cliff -- looks like YOU'VE been degrading the S/N ratio here. The very message to which I'm responding is a good example: someone posts a question with a technical answer, and you reply with a gratuituous tirade of bitching and moaning about how the forum is going to pot.

Your "religious crusade" language is also starting to look pretty telling, in light of your obvious need to testify to your faith in the D7UG and bash anyone so much as mentioning alternatives to it, not to mention your capitalization of MINOLTA. I've seen that usage before, and not with a camera brand. (At least you don't go so far as to asterisk out the O.)

You know, Clifford -- it's quite classic, externalizing stuff like that. Makes you wonder about your disparaging talk about GURUS, attention, and followings, doesn't it? Could it be that ol' cranky Clifford is... JEALOUS?

Hey, Clifford -- you're among the most senior, knowledgeable, and experienced people on this board. Why don't you actually SHARE some of the knowledge, and you could be a guru too! Start by answering the occasional newbie question about Minolta D7's, and then maybe one or two general photography related. Before you know it, you'll be giving lessons and building up a "following" of your own!

Finally: Please substantiate your allegation about a pattern of forum regulars wanting to turn this into a 10D evangelist convention (yes, it's 10D, not D-10: looks like you can't read any better than you can count). It ought to be simple: just look up the threads where you've seen people going AMEN at Canon. If you can't do this, I expect you to be a man and post a public apology.

In other words, Clifford, I'm not putting up with $hit like this. Prove your allegations, or take your snide comments somewhere else. And do try to contribute something of substance every once in a while: we all know you have the knowledge.

Cheers, Petteri

PS. Why not stand up and be counted in the vote I called? Or do you prefer to continue taking bitching and moaning and taking pot-shots, hiding behind supposedly justified responses to other threads?

PPS. And DON'T hit enter after every line -- it's unnecessary and makes you very annoying to quote.

You must have seen the "catfight" pic. That was cats PLAYING, they ALL do. When you have 6, you will see. It is a riot and a blast for all.

I titled it "fighting" to dray :-) EYES :-)

OK

Well, no scars then :-)
But sure it gives proof that pics are well scrutinized;

It is the place where our little Siamese cat have multiple scars. The trophies (nails from other cats) are mostly brought home in her forehead.

to me, this forum has gotten really boring lately because most of the posts i've been seeing lately are from people who post their photos looking for comments. it just gets really boring reading the same comments over and over and over again. i'm also bored of the generic subject material (such as flowers and cats) that a lot of people have been posting lately. it's nice to look at other people's work but it just seems that people are just looking for attention (like your thread here, no offense). don't get upset if nobody has anything to say about a particluar photo because most likely they really don't have anything to say cause if they did then they would have.

also like daniella, i don't really critique anymore because many people have fragile feelings. they ask for comments and critiques but when your honest with them they get upset. it just seems that most people are looking for a pat on the back. not everyone is like this though, there are alot of people here who honestly want to learn.

BigTIME. Wowee, holyipee. You can say that again. I think it must be the angle of the neck, length and wind or matting of hair, and mostly compression from looking at my original. That is a real small file for so much hair detail. :((

My sister had a outdoor cat once, I did not like it, it would come home to her house after a day or two beat up from catfights, I guess?? It was mean. I do know cats can get some scars, I have a ton, all of my cats like to fight, (play) with me. It is great fun. :-))

Glad we cleared this up, nice to talk with you today, Hans.

Damn Petteri,

My respect for you just keeps increasing daily. Nice to see you've also got "Back-bone" when and where it counts. Ouch !!!

Well done.
