Got the dreaded automated phone call at 11 AM this morning.

"Hello! Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and we will not be able to ship you your order until 4/24/2003. ...bla, bla bla..."

That´s April 24, folks.

I placed my order on March 22. A quick check on my on line order status reveals nothing new, still the same 4/14 delay, (and 4/22 on the "detailed info" page) .

I'll never order from them again. I don't care how low a price I get in the end. It's just not worth it.

Me too. I'll wait. I called and had them upgrade me to free overnight as another poster suggested. At least then I won't have to wait long after it ships.

I was thinking of cancelling, then waiting for the free 10D that appears to be delivered once you cancel, but that's too risky for me ;-)

I ordered my 10D from J&R on Friday (4/11) and according to the tracking, it is "out for delivery" - it'll be waiting for me when I get home.

But then, I paid full price. Life is a tradeoff I guess

I would not be at all surprised if they put all those buyers who have used multiple coupons (the ones with the cheapest prices paid for the 10D) at the end of the list, or to delay it as much as possible in hopes that they may end up cancelling the order thus saving the company from the revenue loss.

Don't get your hopes up, but...

Earlier today the last two entries of the order status (shipping prep and estimated ship date) were crossed out, and there was a note indicating delivery on 4/24 or later. It also reflected the free overnight shipping I was upgraded to because of the delay.

Now it shows an estimated delivery date of 4/15, and instead of being crossed out, shipping prep and estimated ship date are greyed out and indicate 4/14. ???? Could it be?????

Try CompUSA, instead of "SOLD OUT" it now says April 22nd, when I ordered mine it said April 4th, and I got it on that day, I would give them a call. Also I stopped by Service Photo this weekend and saw that they had one in stock.

I too asked for, and got, the free overnight shipping upgrade. Well, that doesn't make up for all the confusion.

Hmmm... I think you're probably ahead of me, Howie.

Now, on the on-line status, I'm getting the usual "Delayed 4/14/2003", on the "short version" order status page - but "long version" reads:

"Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and we will not be able to ship you your order until 4/22/2003. You have chosen Next Business Day shipping; therefore your expected delivery date is April 23. We apologize for the delay. We will continue working hard to get your order to you."

Every time I check Dell's website for the status of my order, it changes. I'm one of the ones that ordered late on 3/21. Original ship date of 4/14, today! Early today, it finally said the order would be delayed, ship date 4/21. Then later today, I got the phone call saying it would be delayed, ship date 4/24. Now when I check the website, it still says ship date 3/14, today! Maybe there's still hope, maybe not!

Dell seems to have more than one server and the servers do not both have the same information. People have reported almost every conceivable outcome when facing the same indications that you have. Until you are charged and you have a tracking no. you cannot be sure your product has been sent. And even if you cancel you won't be sure it won't ship.

Go figure.

Lotta, I definitely feel for you. All I can say is hang in there a little longer, I feel confident that Dell will get you your camera. I also ordered mine on the 22nd and mine was delivered on 4/11. It was scheduled to ship on 4/14 so I was very pleasantly surprised. I didn’t add any coupons to my order, just the standard $1350. I am thinking that you must be VERY close to the top of the waiting list since we both ordered on the same day. I hope they hurry up and get you your camera. I know how you feel, the wait was killing me. Now I am suffering through work wanting to be out in the wonderful weather taking pictures with my new camera!

It's been taken off their web site due to all the backorders. But I suppose you could call in and see if they will let you order it still. Question is, why would you want to??! You'll be waiting for it until the cows come home.

It's much easier to find it elsewhere. And several other places offer 10% off anyway.

I had tried for nearly a month to get one of the 10D's on-line. All I received was the run around. Some placed wanted to charge your credit card in advance, but could not tell you when the camera would be shipped. Last Friday the local photo supplier in this area called me to inform me they had one in stock and ask if I would be interested. I told them yes and purchased it. They where selling it for 1599.00 but I still took it. Just gave up trying to purchase it on-line. It was worth paying the extra 100 just to be able to get it. I went through the same thing when the D60 came out. Never did get that one.

Oh well I am a happy camper now.
