Here is a long story, but it's a great experience for bargain hunters to keep a watchful eye.

My advice for the following merchants because they are the SAME merchant with various websites. Digitally discovered, uncle wades, best source digital, best disco cam, and best digital deal (bestdigitaldeals is not the SAME company) . These merchants claim to sell NEW cameras with full manufacturers warranty, accessories, and so forth, but that is not true. I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix 885, and got “suckered” into buying an extra hi-cap battery, but then tried to cancel the order for the extra battery 10 mins later. The representative (Mickey) said the order has already shipped out, so if you want to return it you’re going to have to wait until you receive it. I call back the next day to get a tracking number and after being put on hold for 5 mins, I finally got a number after arguing with the representative about my reason to obtain a tracking number. On the delivery day, it wasn’t even delivered by Airborne express (tracking number provided by the representative). It was delivered by UPS. I open up the “double packaging” they claim as an insurance to the deliver of cameras, and find out the camera was not in its original manufacturer’s box and the accessories were NOT OEM manufacturers, it was generic. The best has yet to come, I open up the lens and you guessed it a “CRACKED CAMERA LENS”. Lucky for me the merchant is closed early on Friday 11:30-1:30pm eastern time, I’m from California. So, I filed for a return authorization the same day, waited till Monday, (they’re suppose to contact you within 24hrs), and a rep named Brian, said I can’t help you, you have to wait until we contact you. So I waited until Wednesday, the same guy finally said okay, what do I need. So, I provide my order number, which ended up being someone else’s number, customer number who is also someone else, and finally my credit card, and then he was able to look me up. I tell him I receive a broken camera, and I want a full refund minus shipping, but then I get charged 10%, for returning instead of getting a replacement and ship on my own expense to their warehouse. It’s been two weeks already, so who knows what else can go wrong. The camera did not come with a warranty card, appears to be refurbished (no stickers, broken lens), did not come in original packaging, and the worst customer service (pushy, deceiving, etc). The site “best deal digital is no longer available. If you look up the merchants sales order #, it’s all the same, and they will ask you what website did you find the price for. They’re working on commission, so they will PILE on the unnecessary accessories. Hopefully, this message can make a difference to weary consumers who looks for bargains. Please pass the word on this merchant.

out of curiosity - did you do any research on the store before buying from them? or did you simply buy from them because it was the best price?

any time i buy anything, i will research the company on reseller ratings, BBB, and deja google. as there are many sites like this that will not send a camera because you didn't buy the extended. or they cut the camera up and sell the components like the included battery and instructions as something seperate. the list goes on and on.

Unbelievable! I don't always do a search on companies I order from but I certainly will now.

I've shopped online exclusively for all electronic stuff that can be shipped, you don't UPS/FedEx TV's or Monitors to Alaska, and I've never yet had a bad experience.
After reading your story I count myself very lucky!
