Slowing down the Canon printer

Kodak makes several papers. I have heard of people using kodak and
geting good results but several of their papers give horible
results. If I have been informed corectly, kodak likes to
drastically change the formulation of their papers so a paper will
work well and then all of a sudden not work well. Because of this
I tend to not recomend kodak papers. Not because none of them will
work, but because many of them will not and it's not consistant
over the years.
thae hardest thing about using Kodak papers is getting used to opening the yellow boxes in the light:-)

What exactlly happened when you clicked on th program and
what did you do after that?(I am just trying to figure out what
hapened when you used it).
Ho Richard. So, here is what happens.

All programmes closed. Ctrl+Alt+Del to launch the Windows Task Manager. Click on Performance Tab and check CPU usage. It is 0% (I have not opened the slowpc prog yet).

Now, I open the SlowPC.exe file and as soon as I do so, the CPU usage boosts up to 100%! Even without me pressing the GO button. I have disabled my AntiVirus just in case (before running the prog), but same thing happens. 100% as soon as I open the prog; and stays there.

I tried changing the settings and clicking GO, but the usage remains stuck to 100%.

I am running XP Pro, on a [email protected] GHz with 512MB RAM.

I hope the above is clear. If you need further details let me know.

By the way, I forgot to mention, I have downloaded the single EXE (SlowPC.exe) file. Should I download the ZIP (Packaged_SlowPC.zip) instead? What is the difference?

1) Yes it automatically starts running so your processor usage probably will go to 100% when you start the program. The Go button is just there to initiate changes.

2) There is no difference between the .exe and the zip file - I did not know if the stand alone .exe would work on everyones pc - I am using VB and I think it needs some support files which are usually installed by other software. If the .exe says something about missing dll's then you need the package - otherwise just use the .exe

THEN :

Things have become busy for me so I have at least temporarily dropped working on the printer queue control method of slowing the printer. It turned out to not be as simple as I had hoped, and it looks like there are only 2 of you who would get any use out of it, so right now it's priority is really low. If this issue turns up in the forum again, or other people want it (and no one else writes something first) then I may pick it up again.

Actually - anyone following this who would want me to continue development please post here.
I am just trying to tell if I should bother continuing or not.

I assume that I am one of the two? I wouldn't put your self out to write it. If you do get a little free time here and there to work on it, and it solves the problem, I would suspect that several people would want to use it (based on number of threads I have seen about resin coated paper and the i850/i950). If it winds up being too dificult, maybe we will get lucky and ilford will release drivers for these printere that will do the same thing. IF you do finish it let us know, I would love to try it and use it if it has the desired effect.

Rick,
I guess I am the other half of the two-piece!

Anyway, I understand you have things to do, but as Richard said, if you find some time here and there and if you can find a way to do it as it is not as simple as thought, I would sure be one the first to download it from your FTP!
On the other hand, if it's not possible, no hard feelings! :-)

Rick,

Only try it if you want the challenge and have the spare time. I am already thankful for the time that you spent helping us. Do not feel any pressure.
