I wanted to get anybody's input on this lens, I'm sure its not L quality but for my amateur use might be enough, getting it for a very cheap price 130$. Is it worth it?

Thanks,

I HAVE THE "IS" VERSION OF THIS LENS AND USE IT TO CAPTURE PIX OF MY DAUGHTERS SOFTBALL TEAM. I ALSO HAVE THE 100/400L IS. IT'S NICE TO HAVE THIS LIGHTWIEGHT LENS AND STILL CAPTURE QUALITY PIX. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT.

This shot was taken through my front door window pane using the 75-300 USM (none IS) with a D60.

Are you buying a used lens? Hopefully it's not the same one I just returned to B&H, because that lens was defective. I had bought a brand new 75-300 non-USM and loved it, then saw the B&H one (USM version) for almost half, so I returned my original one and bought the used one... big mistake, the used lens had a hell time getting focus, was extremely soft at anything wider than f11, and had severe CA.

On the other hand, the brand new non-USM lens I had was sharp at any aperture. good color and decent contrast (not an L lens, yes). I'd recommend it, but just beware of used ones.

If you want "L" quality at an affordable price, you can get a 100-300 5.6L used for under $300.

Sure it doesn't have fast AF, its loud, its got a pull/push zoom, but image quality is top notch!

I've got the II version, and found it excellent for capturing butterflies at about 1:5 and zoomed out to 300. It's not macro I know, but the reasonable standoff stopped me scaring the 'flies and my success rate was quite high.

I've got the 100 macro now so the 75-300 doesn't get many outings but I'm limited to less wary butterflies!

Hi

Can anyone tell me the different regarding these two lenses?

I've ordered my 10D with 17-40mm/4.0L and 50mm/2,5 Macro - and thaught a 75-300 or 100-300 will do until I can afford the 70-200/4.0L or something...
Any thaughts?

I have 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM for about 2 years.

This lens is pretty light weight and handy, however I do not use it very often after its first few rolls.(it is not sharp enough for my taste)

I only shot for the landscape, therefor at the corner of the picture turn out to be very blur(@f11). The imagine at the center is ok!

I think if you only shoot for the birds,portrait... those kind of subjects, this lens is a good choose.

BTW, if you have DSLR, the 1.6 focal length multiplie "might" let you get rid of those blur.

regards,

Rich
