dear all,

i just bought a Coolpix 5700 from Singapore. yes, it arrived alright but on the LCD monitor of my camera there is one dead/hot pixel...is it a cause for warranty repair/warranty claim? or should i leave it as it is? if you have it in your camera what would you do about it??

kindly help me out here.

thanks.

After a few weeks of fighting and speaking to managers I got nikon to replace my camera with a new one that was in mint condition (see my previous post: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=4820997 ). Although the manual says that this problem is normal and not considered defective, it bugged me which was reason enough (in my opinion) to get it fixed. They will tell you no when you call... but if you put up a fight you can probably get it fixed. If the problem dosnt annoy you leave it alone.... if it is a distraction whenever you look at it (like I thought it was) complain your heart out until someone listens (always helps to ask for managers after the lower level workers turn you down). Thats my 2 cents anyway.

I just got a new 4300 to replace the second 885 that died on me under warranty (both had to do somewhat because of firmware upgrading, "system error" yada yada) and it has a stuck red pixel on the LCD. It's on the edge of the screen and although I don't like it, I'm not going to do anything but live with it and not complain. If it was in the middle of the screen or something, that would be another matter though. It would also be different if I hadn't been without a camera for so long. It's been at the service center for a total of six times between two 885's. The 4300 is much better - no CA or reddish pix and no SYSTEM ERROR!!.

Just my 2 cents but you might owe me change.. :)

i bought nikon because i am expecting a quality product and good
service but the result is i got a lemon/hot pixelled camera. what
would it take so that they will make some repairs/replacement of the

lcd monitor?? ccd?? by the way, i bought this Coolpix 5700 from an authorized Nikon dealer in SARS-INFECTED SINGAPORE

i am really p.i.s.s.e.d off at what they are doing and what they will continue on doing...ignoring the cries of help and anguish of their loyal customers!

I bourght a 3100 two weeks ago. It had a red pixel in the center of the screen and the the lens made a grinding noise as it retracted right out of the box. I took it back to CC one hour later and we opened another box. Camera was perfect. The sales clerck said for $340 I would want a perfect camera too. Get it fixed or replaced.

If you decide on a warranty repair I would be interested in knowing if NikonUS will honor the warranty on a grey market camera (or were you in sigapore when you bought it - it may make a diffence)

you may find NikonUS can say for you to send it to singapore for repairs - or you may get lucky
