Could someone be nice and post a few shots of either P72 or P8, with real close macro. I'm about buying one of those, but i can't find anything on the web.

So, please, owners of those cams, leave a few shot on a photo website, and repost the adress here please.

Here in Europe (Luxembourg), Sony has problems with delivery, they aren't here yet !

I'm also trying to decide between the two cameras.

I already have a F707 but want a smaller camera that can be carried around in my pocket and take pics that can be printed off up to 7x5

I was edging towards the more expensive but smaller P8 when I noticed the CCD size
P72 - sensor size 1/1.8 "
P8 - sensor size 1/2.7 "

Does this suggest the P72 will take better pics than the P8?

If so is the only reason for the P8's more expensive price it's slightly smaller size and InfoLithium battery?

Thanks
Leo

Hmm, good to read now that the sensor is smaller on the P8. I never noticed before...

I have no idea what the result looks like, but i would agree with the fact that P72 is better.

I did a google search on the importance of CCD sizes and it seems that a larger CCD does not necessarily mean better pics - though it may effect how wide the angle of the shot is.

So I guess we'll have to wait til it's reviewed to get a better idea.

The P8 also has a better autofocus system allowing the camera to better track moving objects - so I'm still tempted to spend the extra cash

Ok, thanks. I'd have bet that new generation sensors 'd be smaller, but with higher quality.
If you ever find a review of the P8, could you please post it here !?
See ya

Thought you might also like to know that the P8 offers:

Tracking Auto-Focus System to maintain continuous focus lock on moving subjects.
Live histogram.
Adjustable color saturation and contrast.

The histogram will be v useful for checking exposure on shots and save extra work later on on photoshop - if you've not used one before it means you can overcome the limitations of the lcd display.

It's something that's been missing from even the top of the range models so sounds good

BUT I guess it all depends on the quality of the ccd...

I have a Sony F707 and love everything about it. My daughter is really getting into taking digital pictures and wanted a camera for her birthday. I did a lot of looking, and decided to get another sony because I have been so happy with my first. Also it is a big plus to be able to share memory sticks since I already have several. My desires in the second camera was that I wanted a smaller camera, capable of taking pictures that could be printed to an 8X10 size. I narrowed my search down to the P72 or P8. I read as much as I could find on both units and decided to get the P72. The main reason for the P72 over the P8 was that I wanted to use this camera to carrying on long hikes and hunting trips. The P72 was small enough but the main reason I choose it was that it did not use the Lithum Battery. The P72 will use standard double AA batteries making sure that I can carry extras on these trips.

T really like the camera and it takes really good photos. It does lack some manual controls but I think it is a real winner.

I'm in the in the same boat as you trying to decide between the two. I determined that the benefit of smaller size, metal sturdy case, and lito battery were benefits to me. The only question I had left was the one you raised about the CCD size. I didn't want to sacrafice quality of my pics for the benefits I mentioned above. Let me know if you find out anything else or if you purchase the P8 (which is unavailable still where I'm at) if you like it.
