I've been experimenting with the MCON on my 717. I think these two will really go together nicely. Here's one shot taken with the MCON. I used full zoom and macro mode. I really like the DOF you get for shots like this.

shots like these reaffirm my desire to buy the MCON. Got me a TCON already.... thinking about a WCON.... Whats that guy's signature say? Gonna be a CON man someday?? Thats me! lol.

I love the DOF too. I have been trying to get shots exactly like this but havent acheived the amount of background blur that I would like.

The TCON is definitely on my list of things to get. I think that and the 717 would be a really nice combination. Before summer here I am going to pick up a set of close up lenses as well. I bet they will work really good between the TCON and camera for getting my bee and butterfly shots.

Just for comparison sake, here's the same shot (although taken a day earlier) with my E-10 at full zoom and the MCON. That 5x zoom does make a difference over the 4x that the E-10 has with the DOF. 717 on the top and the E-10 is on the bottom here.

Dwight,

What is the purpose of closeup filters if you already have the MCON? What benefits would it give you that the MCON doesnt?

Thanks!

The close up filters I can put between the camera and TCON, the MCON I can't. That way I can get a little bit more distance between me and the objects I'm shooting, hopefully annoying bees abd butterflies less.

All you need is a 72mm - 62mm step down ring, excellent combo.

The MCON-35 works great sandwiched between the 14b and the camera for hard to get at macros, fantastic combination. This flower was shot from 6-8 feet away, hand held. Once you get subject framed and focused you might have to move camera back or forward a hair for perfect focus. Or if you use a tripod you can use a sliding platform like I have my 300s mounted on for fine adjustment. You can also use the combo. for normal macro close ups but 1-2 feet away, lets you get out of the light and using the cameras zoom. That's what's great about the 14b, 50% optical zoom, (300b no zoom).

Well, you've sold me on that combination. I figured with the 72-62mm step down ring being needed that you wouldn't be able to get an image without vignetting. Looks like you are getting some great results. Thanks for the great info. I think I'm going to go buy a TCON now and a step ring.
Thanks again.

Just ordered the TCON and step ring. Should be here before the weekend. I know what I'll be doing this weekend now, playing with the TCON and MCON combination. Thanks again.
