End of my 'flexible tolerance'

With trying to include my girls age 16 and 9 in teaching them photography, I would prefer to have the forums technical in nature and keeping it away from making women sex objects.

I appreciate your website, your reviews and you. I have learned so much from so many helpful people on this site.

Thank you for stepping in.

I wish you and your wife a long, successful, prosperous life.

Guys,

It looks like it's time for me to step in AGAIN.

This forum is for the discussion of technical issues regarding
Canon SLR digital cameras and for the sharing of techniques,
information and quality images. It is not a dumping ground for
your latest bikini or semi-nude shot.

Our posting rules have been static for almost two years and are
VERY clear.

"Glamour / Nude / Bikini pictures - Please do not embed such images
in your messages, while we understand that such pictures
(tastefully shot) are a big part of commercial photography we do
have a worldwide audience and wide range of paying advertisers. If
you wish to bring a gallery of such images to peoples attention
then please just post a link. We will not allow nude / semi-nude
pictures of children or links to such galleries."

Having already spoken to a well known poster on this forum I'm sure
he clearly understands these rules and I expect him to lead by
example.

This is the end of my tolerance of this kind of image in messages,
it lowers the tone and doesn't contribute one bit. From now
onwards I will be deleting and banning (without return) anyone who
breaks the above rule or any others. Read carefully:

because it simply isn't a issue worth worrying about but seeing
another photographers copyrights violated online and nothing done
about it certainly is disturbing.
That is exactly what I thought when I saw the "aubade" pics just yesterday. Bikini, glamour and nude pics should be OK. But violating copyrights can not be tolerated.

Exactly,

Phil owns this site and HE decide what HE accept or not. I have some great pics that I wont even think about posting a link here because of the content. It is a case of respecting the owner's wiches and it's allright whatever his reason.
Imagaine if every business owner said 'Don't waste any more of my
time' With regard to running their own business.
the arrogance!
let's say you're surfing the forum...and as you open a message
containing a 'glamour' shot your young child walks in?

or from phils POV...he there are lots of 'glamour' images the site
will be added to the banned list of the progs that limit surfing
for kids. (i believe this happened once before)

the rules are required since (1) this is a huge site with a high
volume of traffic and (2) this is how phil makes a living. he has
to safeguard his investment.

think about it!!

I believe the rules say you cannot post the same message to all the other forums (or something to that effect).

It would be like a Bobby (cop) going thru a red light to catch a speeder. Dangerous.

The Canon SLR forum is always the first to be wrapped on the
knuckles...
I see that this warning was only posted to the Canon SLR forum, so I guess everyone else gets "flexible tolerance" except us. Unless, of course, you're going to enforce it on everyone else without warning. Either way, it doesn't seem fair. Of course, it's your web site, so you don't have to be fair, but I, for one, will certainly think less of you.

Regards,
Steve Farmer

Uh....we were talking about Phil warning all the other forums....

DeeDee,

This is not bait. I am not that kind of poster. I want to know if you liked your 9 year old exposed to this:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0303/03031101asyaschweeninterview.asp

The images (at the end/bottom) are very disturbing to me. I (used to) to come here for digital camera information. Now I just drop in when I am desparate for an answer or having insomnia.

29 lbs. of Canon stuff in a backpack that I carry everywhere. A closet full of things that are banned in Britain. A minivan and a Fender Stratocaster. A three bedroom ranch with three owls on an acre. An aversion to rumours. Also, absolutely no Canon 1200mm f/5.6. Yet.

Now there's something I'd like to see.

Will you be drugging the critter or will you be wearing chain-mail long-sleeve gloves and a fencing mask in order to do that?

Remember, Phil, your site is only viable as long as your user base
remains loyal.
It is almost as if 'C' corp. is running this forum.
If this forum becomes the stellar thing it can if we follow the rules about being civil, and don't post anything in-line which could violate the rules, and if we keep the discussions about phtotgraphy and the equipment which makes it possible...

If that all happens, folks at Canon might take a liking to this forum and use it as a way of keeping tabs on the pulse of their users. If it becomes (and it might have already) a bunch of Dell and Ritz-bashers, gripers with no positive suggestions, and a general name-calling free-for-all no-holds-barred flame-fest, even I might stop reading it.

As much as I don't believe we ever waste Phil's time (that's something only he can do), and incidentally to the poster who commented what he didn't think Phil did simply because he was "happily married", I don't think conjecture about what Phil does after hours, beyond wedlock, is appropriate talk for this forum or respectful to Phil. I believe we should have (wth occoasional lapses directed at the person who posts an out-of-focus dog pic) and demonstrate, is total respect for each other. I think it could be a catchy thing, and make this forum stand out from the others, not just because what we shot pics with is the best, but because of how we treat each other (theme music comes up in the background).

I remember I used to come away from reading here with a feeling of having gained something. A lot of something.

I'm rambling.
Carry on.

I too think this thread has gone far enough without some real political discussion.

Ken,

I like your posts and your contributions. And I'm in favor of us lliberating the Iraqi people. I think it's unfortunate it takes war and all the "co-lateral" damage and death that involves and I haven't figured out an alternative to it.

I'm curious though, are you ok with shots of anti-war protestors who are well-informed? Or are you convinced all people who protest this war are not informed about something?
