S602 vs 6900 Help!

Using the same battery is O.K. but getting away from Fuji's
proprietary battery is the best thing for you. The S602 / S602Pro
uses NiMh AA batteries and last for 3 to 4 hours. 2 sets of
batteries and a charger at Wal-Mart cost me about $30 that’s
The initial price of the Fuji NP80 battery is ridiculous but Kodak dumped a bunch of NP80 a few months ago for $10 a piece, or a deal at $30 which include a quick charger and two batteries. The NP80 does not seem to last as long as the NiMH do, but for my style of shooting, four NP80s get me by for a day, as I tend never to use the LCD except to review images. I also do not use the built in flash, as I have a good external unit, and the built in flash on my 6900 really did seem to drain the battery quite quickly.

Add that to the fact I had a Toshiba before my 6900, which also used NP80 batteries, so I was set for batteries and media when I got my 6900. The difference between the two camera was not enough for me to consider to upgrade my 6900. Image quality is the same, though the 602 does have better handling, I just found it not worth the hassle to try to sell my 6900 and then lay out some more cash for a 602. The movie and macro modes never has interested me, and I find the 6900 macro mode to be more than adequate for what I shoot. I've only used the movie mode once, just to see if it worked. :)

It does not make sense for you to restrict your choices to the media formats, especiallly when you are purchasing a DSLR. By the time you purchase a decent TTL flash, two or three medium grade lenses, dslr body, etc... you will have spent at least $4,000 if for example you purchased a S2, nikon sb-28 flash, a couple of nikor lenses, filters, camera bag, etc. But your worried about $200 worth of media cards???

Hi-

The media restrictions would only apply were I deciding between the S602 and 6900. For the S2, obviously $200 isn't going to matter much- and I have decided to go ahead and purchase the S2 next month- It's not making sense to buy either of the other cameras.

Thanks for your time and assistance.

I own both the 6900 and the 602 and within the envelope where they
overlap, either will deliver top quality photos. The 602, however,
has a more extensive envelope in terms of ISO speed, macro
capability, and movies. In addition, it provides a much improved
evf, dual memory cards, and a better battery situation. They are
both wonderful, but I would go with the 602 unless there is some
overwhelming economic consideration.

Thanks for your help Jim! With the assistance of this board, I have decided to just spend all of my money on an S2. It doesn't make sense to purchase either of the other cameras for my purposes! So thanks to you all I will now be very broke :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But really, thanks again!

Using the same battery is O.K. but getting away from Fuji's
proprietary battery is the best thing for you. The S602 / S602Pro
uses NiMh AA batteries and last for 3 to 4 hours. 2 sets of
batteries and a charger at Wal-Mart cost me about $30 that’s
enough power for all day shooting. The 602 has tons or great
features. No more shutter lag, no need to hold down the button for
the manual focus preview. GREAT LOW LIGHT! and low noise aat higher
ISO settings. With the minimum ISO of 160 and very little noise up
to ISO400, its great for most everything. The 6MP makes a great
large file for prints up to 16" x 20". Even though the sensor is
3.3MP it does more than just rez up the image, the custom algorithm
Fuji uses, makes a file equivalent to a 4.6MP camera. I have tested
it using test charts and proven it.
I don't know the price of the 6900 but the 602 at about $500 is a
great camera. I like mine as much and more than my Nikon 5700 5MP
camera. I get great indoor and night action sports shots using my
602. The 5700 can not keep up with it in low light.
I got mine on eBay from source one digital, great people to do
business with and he is a major dealer in NYC not a backroom ebay
dealer. He had thousands of good feedbacks. My 602 came with all
accessories, an extra 64MB memory and, 4 batteries and charger and
a case for $550. Beat that!

Thanks for the great info Michael-

I think, though, what I am going to do now is go into debt buying my S2. I had wanted to wait until the price came down, but if I buy another camera in the interim, that will negate any savings anyway. It's just not making a lot of sense to buy either of the other cameras !! Thanks for the info though! Sounds like your ebay deal was great. I buy a lot on ebay myself.

Thanks again,
Mel
Hi,

I'm a graphic designer and I also have a small photography
business, portraits mostly with digital imaging (adding color to b
& w, etc.). I have been using my 4900 for this and it's held up
very well with surprisingly good results. I am getting ready to
buy another camera- moving the 4900 to backup/personal status! I
was thinking of getting the 6900 since it has the 6mp output like
the S602 and they seem very similar. The 6900 also uses the same
batteries as the 4900 (this would be convenient) . What would be
the advantages of the s602 over the 6900? Are the photos of the
same quality from each of these cameras? This is all I really care
about- image quality.

Thank you so much!

NOW, your talking. It's easy to say but the bottom line is, if you can afford and or justify the DSLR it is superior to all the prosumer lines. My friend has a brand new S2Pro and I have to say, I sure wish I had the will power to wait and save for one. I have enough invested now to have gotten the S2 and a bag of lenses. It just seemed to be too much money.

The S2 is lighter than the Canon D10, very fast focus, great features and controls. It feels as good or better in your hand than any Pro film camera I have ever used. The top menu is green and the back menu is red. (or the other way around). These menus post all the information you need. Hot shoe AND PC connections for studio strobes, and tons of features. If you hold one in your hands you will be hooked. IF your not sure believe me we tested it and we shot quite a few resolution charts and printed them out. The Fuji S2Pro is better than the Nikon D100 before you kick in the 12MP interpolation. Don't be fooled by people that don't know what they are talking about. I have heard skeptics and I assure you that the internal interpolation is much more than "Just like rezing it up in Photoshop" The final file is not equal a 12mp sensor quality wise but it does give you more out of thin air. Equal to about an 8 Plus MP sensor the Fuji s2 delivers mush more than the Canon or the Nikon with More resolution, better color, less noise to name a few. It should be good for prints up to 30" x 40" easy.
Good Luck and come back to rub it in, I want to hear all the details.
Thanks,
