F 700 out at end of April

So, anyone willing to try UncleWades? They've claimed to have the camera in stock for some time now:

http://unclewades.com/prod.asp?prodid=FUJFPF700
MacMall/PC Mall now shows ETA of April 11.
And when April 11th comes, it'll be pushed back until April 18th...

By the way, is it normal to announce a camera in February and not
have it out until late April - early May? I wonder if reviewers
have the camera.

If reviewers had them or had definite word on when they would get them I'm sure they'd be advertising it. Personally, I don't know what Fuji's problem is with getting this camera released or at least giving us a reliable date. Maybe they're perfecting the firmware to get their dynamic range abilities up to par with the hype. I've no idea, I just hope it's out by the end of April. I'm going to Las Vegas mid May and I'd love to see what this thing can do in terms of nightshots of the Strip. I have never had my own digicam before and to this moment I still use my mom's A101 and I'm dying with anticipation here! :)

FUJI did give a reliable date. UK website says May, when I called them (Fuji USA) they said late April/early May).

I don't understand what's all the wishfull thinking the camera is going to be released now. I am not saying it couldn't happen, just that Fuji already said what they said and people are still acting as if the camera will be released soon or such as a fact.

And you believe them? Didn't we say already this place doesn't have good reviews?

I don't understand all the hoopla and wishfull thinking- Fuji already said May for UK, late April or May for USA. Yes, it would be cool we can get the camera earlier but why does everybody seem to be acting as "being out early" is a fact or such?

Actually, right around when the PMA was going on Fuji customer service was claiming a release date of late June/early July (Amazon.com still reflects this, July 15th specifically). It wasn't until recently that Fuji got the story straight and synchronized their phone staff to disclose the April/May date (since it IS April now, it seems plausible that perhaps some initial shipments are underway). Why are we so antsy you ask? It's because we haven't even seen any kind of review whatsoever about it yet, and the new technology has a lot of hype baggage to go along with it (assuming it works, it could change future CCD designs across the entire market). Even a pre production review would be nice (Olympus and Nikon had no problem giving reviewers something). I dunno. The absolute silence on Fuji's part is keeping me on edge, just waiting for something, anything, that indicates a review might be around the corner.

Yeah, we're antsy for someone to get the camera because of its potential impact. The few sample pics that raise more questions than answers don't help either. =).

What you are experiencing is hardly new!

Firstly announcements at phot shows are always ahead of completion, it's a false situation forcing announcements en-masse from various companies whose products will all be at different stages of completion.

I don't see any real slippage from the dates announced at that time, last year the 601 and 602 both arrived exactly when initially promised, whatever dates are subsequently 'promised' by suppliers are just baiting you to pre-order.

Fujis advance photo examples are always criticised and the true results are always better when in the hands of experienced users.

The next thing to happen will be the posting of samples from Japanese purchasers, many new to digital, ( the Fuji cams seem to come out there first) with no explanation in English to the general alarm of would be buyers on the forum.

Eventually the reviews will start appearing and again there will be a split over their interpretation.

Finally some excellent shots will start appearing and then will follow 'there must be quality control issues' threads.

Thought I'd pre-warn you !

I can understand the antsiness, as I am avidly also waiting for a review of the F700. All I am saying is that this is bordering on "make believe." It will happen when it happens. If NOBODY has it, but "unclewades has it" it most likely means they DON'T HAVE IT.

Just becuase a button says "free sex and free beer" doesn't mean that when you push it you get it :-)

I agree completely, because we haven't even seen any kind of review whatsoever about it yet, and the new technology has a lot of hype baggage to go along with it (assuming it works!!??)

Phil Askey, please, give us ASAP a pre-production review of this so new & promising camera.

ciao, enrico

I'll second that Enrico! Damn I can't wait for some info to come in..

Well, Phil said that he was working on reviews of two ultra-compact cameras after he finishes the review on the Kodak DSLR. I wonder if one of them is the F700. Phil?

In addition to the new sensor, there is another reason that this is the most eagerly awaited camera of the year. Among pocketable cameras, the F700 clearly has the most features of anything on the market. Even if the new sensor technology is no big deal this camera is still the one to buy. I have just read the instruction book which I downloaded through a link from this discussion group. The amount of control and tweaking available in this camera for its size is fantastic. Please, Phil, we need a review. PLEASE!!

Would like to know how many of you actually put an order in for this baby.

I did at eCOST for a total of $530. It will be interesting to see when it will actually arrive. Dell online does not list any Fujifil cameras......I wish they did. I would preorder from themwith stackable coupons......oh well.

Read back in the forum for June 2002, Dell did an unbelievably bad job with the 602, and subsequently other camera including Nikon 5700, so it's probably a good thing !

Thanks for the tip--I cancelled at MacMall & joined the eCost line. Funny thing--the sites are owned by the same company, but this time eCost is $20 cheaper, even with their processing fee, and their free shipping has no rebate hassles...
