Here are some things that I have noticed since I bought my camera.
A few people who learned I had gotten a digital camera immediately
asked me if it was a Nikon (I guess because my other camera is a
Nikon SLR)...Once I told them I had purchased a Fuji, their
response was somewhat condescending as if to imply that Nikon, in
particular, was the only brand of digital camera they would
consider buying. [I didn't mean to pick on Nikon but it's just
interesting how more than one person I know mentioned this brand
specifically]
What I have found about the people who had this reaction is that
they have not done their homework and that they are far more
concerned with the name of the brand, to the extent that they are
willing to pay large amounts of money for options they might never
use.
The things I really enjoy about my S602:
-It functions very similarly to the Nikon SLR I own.
-It runs on AA batteries--I have spent big bucks on the batteries
for my Nikon.
-It offers the flexibility of both Smart Media and Compact Flash.
-Macro mode is great.
-Burst mode is great.
-Movie mode is an added bonus.
Since buying my S602, I definitely think my photographs have
improved. I would recommend a digital camera for this reason
alone. I have more flexibility and freedom than I did with my SLR.
With my SLR, only when I was taking a photography class did I have
as much freedom as I am experiencing now.
I have seen the digital versus analog comparisons, but actually one
factor that is rarely mentioned is the fact that you have to get
the shot in order to make a comparison. For those with unlimited
budgets to spend on processing film, it may not be such a big
deal. In my case, I find I am not hindered by the fear of wasting
money on developing photos that may not be exactly what I wanted.
With digital, I find myself looking forward to experimenting and
learning new techniques and I continue shooting until I get the
photo I want.
Good luck whatever you decide to buy!

thanx for your replies guys.
yes some dealers directed me away from fuji. When I said that I had
read good reviews about the fuji camera, one dealer went to the
extent of saying "they don't have the stomach to by the better
brands"!
But of course, the dealer could give you proof of the problems, he
was just trying to be helpful!

One of the the things you tend
to see in camera sotres, expecially chain stores like Ritz, Wolf or
the big box stores like Curcuit City, is the many of thecamera
sales people really do not know their stuff, especially if you
venture outside the mainstream gear from Canon or Nikon. I was
looking for a specific flash for my Pentax PZ-1p about a year ago
and went to our local Wolf Camera Superstore. Their 35mm manager
insisted to me that Pentax no longer made 35mm equipment, I'd never
find what I needed and I should switch to a "real" brand like
Nikon......that's just either complete ignorance on the manager's
part or complete disregard for my intelligence....
i guess I'll jump in and buy the S602Z. should I be concerned about
rumours that the model may be discontinued?
I wouldn't be worried.......what difference will it make if the
camera is discontinued? I use a 6900 and will keep it for as long
as it continues to function. The camera meets all my needs and I
have no need to switch. My guess would be a 602 will suit
everyone's needs as it is a VERY capable camera. Unless you have
quite specialized photographic interests, the 602 should be all the
camera most serious amateurs would need unless they feel the need
to go with a DSLR ( or just cannot stand the fact of not having
the newest model!).
