Because this would be a touchy post on the Olympus forum I am putting this question here in hopes of some imput by former Olympus owners.

Does anyone have an idea what I am likely to be offered in trade for my E10 towards a 10D plus a lens in the 500-600 range making the purchase approximately $2100. I know what the cameras are selling for and what people are asking but that is a sellers price and I am looking for a buyers price ball park figure as to what I might expect. My camera is one year old and new like condition.

Have you tried keh.com -- they deal in used gear and have an online quote system.

Any DSLR beats unexposed film.

If I were to sell my E10, I'd probably ask for $500. I'd most likely get it, but that's not enough money for me to sell it for so I'm keeping it for the wife.

Same here... I am keeping my E-10. Not a bad camera but definitely not a 10D. Great for wife or family or sister.

$500 is a fair market value for your camera, subtract the total of the new 10D camera plus lens, you may need $1,500 to do the transaction. Try to sell the camera yourself, you will get more out of it ( may be another $50 to $75), do not od the trade, most of time, final outcome will disapoint you. Good luck

Pops,

A good friend of mine has had great sucess selling equipment on e-bay when he wants to upgrade. I wouldn't expect you to get more than $500 for a used E10, but e-bay ifs full of people who don't seem to know what things are worth. You might get $1,000.

Just make sure you fairly represent what you are selling and you might end up pleasantly surprised.

I hope you mean a dollars and not milimeters when you say the 500 to 600 range!! You can get a very good lens or two if you're talking dollars ... but I would have to work to trade my car for a good 600 mm lens for my D60!

Check eBay. It's a seller's market for sure! Your E-10 might pay for the optics you'd need for your 10D, and bring the out-of-pocket to $1,500 if you already have CF and a tripod. ( You'll still want a spare battery, though... )

I just did the price quote at KEH and got very ill quickly at their numbers that is under the $500. mentioned and my camera is pristine with a B&W UV filter on it. Looks like I may be keeping it or and not bothering with the home dealer route. I am wi;;ing to pay a little more for a lens or two if I am able to receive something of value for it and that is service and buyer protection in my purchases.

I have the E10 that I have kept like new and used little since purchase as I have been ill and unable to use it as much as I would have liked. I have also the TCON 14B that I have never used and of course everything that came with the camera including a charger and extra batteries plus an extra battery holder and a SCA 3202 adapter for the Metz 54 MZ-3 that I will no longer need. I would probably through in the bag as well, a Lowepro.

I have a Canon EOS 650 with aa couple lenses so I am not without a lens to use but I plan on the 28-135mmIS to start and the 17-40mm F/4 is on my short list if it turns out to be a good lens.
The 500-600 mention are $ of course.

I recently sold my E-10 w/ Tcon 14B, Wcon 8B , Li-Po Grip, Remote etc.,CF cards, Contax Hood, Ac adapter and Tiffin filters. It was agreat package and like new. I considered selling off piece meal ......possibly getting more $$ toward my 10D but didn't. I think the features, glass and construction of the E-10 camera is a steal at the price. I only wish that I could have kept it, but couldn't justify spending more "Mad" money. OK.......I'm getting to it....I let the package go for $1500.

Now, I got the 10D, the vertical grip and X-battery. I pluncked down the $ for a 70-200mm 2.8 L usm lens, Uv filter and 1Gb Flash Card. Will I miss the E-10? ....you bet. But now my girl has bigger pixels and I'll looking forward to playing with them!

If you can aford to keep it...Keep it. If not, sell her and move on!

They are a reseller, so they are going to quote lower so they can insure their own profit margin when they sell it back used. It's just like cars. Dealers will obviously give you less. Sell privately (Ebay) for more.

I sold my E-10 for $700 with 2x128 MB compact flash cards and a 64 MB smartmedia card to a relative. Like you, my E-10 was in excellent condition with box, manuals, cables, software, etc. I even had an extended waranty from Best Buy. KEH offered $435.00 for the whole lot, but they were reselling for over $700.00. So I eliminated the middle man. I seriuosly considered selling via Ebay for a Buy now of $650.00 and a starting bid 0f $600.00 with No Researve. From what I understand the bidding process generally drives the price much higher than what it's worth.
Good luck. Ditch the E-10 and buy an L series lens.

Hi Pops,

Never sell to KEH, they will low ball you thats for sure, after all they what to turn a profit on it.
Look to Ebay to get the best price for your gear.

Here is a link to recently completed auctions for you to look at. Keep in mind many end with no sale so you have to look at each auction. In the few minutes I loked at these, you should be able to get $600-$700 for the E10 if it is mint, especially if you still have the box and all the material.

Monte's advice is good, but I would do it a little differently.

Set the starting price at $10 with a reserve of $600. This low starting price will entice and catch the eye of many more people. I speak from experience after selling more than 200 items on Ebay. Starting low is the way to go and protect yourself with a reserve of the minimum you would sell for.

Thanks all for the advise, I would love to sell it on Ebay but I have not a clue on how to do so.

I have evrything my camera came with, box, manuals, software, plus what I have mentioned. I could throw in a CF Card to go with the SM card that came with the camera. I also have the Da Protector on the camera since day 1 and am not sure if I should leave it on or remove it. My camera has had both the B&W UV filter and Da Protector on before I ever took a photo with opting to protect my lens as I knew it was a good share of the cameras true value.

I had hoped to reap enought from the camera to pay for the new lens coming out the 17-40mm f/4 and that I understand it going to sell for $799.00. I then thought I might be able to sell the TCON and SCA adapter for enogh for a second battery and double battery charger or the
BG-ED3.

Hey pops,

I'm sure you can tell from the Oly forum that I really like the 10D. I will be selling my whole E-10 outfit for one reason - I'll never use it.

I enjoy candid street photography and portraiture and I really loved the silense of the E-10. BUt, I like everything else about the 10D more so I wouldn't use the E-10. Also, I tend to want a decent tele and the stock lens doesnt offer what I want and the addons are not acceptable to me. A decent range zoom on the 10D will serve me better and make me happier.

I know I wont get much for the camera. I'm looking at getting $1000 for over $3000 in kit, but I dont buy looking at resale, I buy what I need to work. The only place that $1000 dissapopints me, is that I cant even buy my working lens (24-70L) with the money from my whole E-10 kit. That's pretty sad. I would just hold onto it, but like I said, I'll never use it so out it will go.

Good luck with yours.

I think you just want to keep the E10.

I had the E20N for 3 months, sold it for $1000 after 3 months to buy the D60 (while at that time, the E20N was still around 1300). Sometime, I feel regret. I should have kept the E20.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Gage,

I don't use a camera as much as some of the users on DP Reviews forums and I am a little ticked at the drop in price for my outfit which is no where near as large as yours I'm sure but I want to sell it and my old EOS 650 if I can and start with the 10D and go from there. I am committed to the 10D and was completely sold after much speculation from reading of personal gripes on this forum. I was no longer unsure of the camera after reading the review by Pekka Saarinen and seeing his photos. I had ordered this camera earlier when everyone else did but pulled my order in defference to Phil's upcoming review but I have seen enough fine photos by the old time users on this forum to know that the camera is capable so I am sold.

I will keep my camera if I can not get a reasonable price for it but it makes me sad to know that keeping my gear in pristine condition was a waste this time.

Pops,

Keep in mind they have to try to make a profit on what they get.

I believe the best course of action is to do eBay or something like that. I sold my E10 in December on eBay for $650. There is another on eBay that started at $500 and last I looked was just over $650.

If you have any accessories for the E10, I would also sell them separately. You will get more in the end than trying to bundle the lot together.

Take care,
