While Mr. iNova might not be the
most tactful (humorous, yes), he has unquestionably been a valuable asset
to this message forum.
Gee thanks Mike.

But I must share this. I've learned a lot over this thread. About human
nature. About my own ability to fume when an irresponsible nay-sayer
throws insults directly at my face and makes personality assault a
substitute for science. I've gotten good advice from some when I went
too far in return.

Fred has come to represent something amazing to me. Since I don't know
him personally except through these -er- DIScussions, it may be possible
that he is in my life somewhere else. Perhaps as that pleasant guy at the
..... who always seems so helpful and bright.

Tactlessly, I would note that in these discussions my ignorance of his
true nature sees only the person who can't constructively ask questions
when it is much more fun to paint a large group as fools and sub-humans.
We are not and he is not.

But the whole thing seems well worth it when the large number of people
who have observed this concept unfolding can now taste the world in a new
way. "See that shadow? Does it look blue? No, of course not. Does it
look maybe a little cool? Let's see what a camera makes of it. Hey,
that's different! Why does that happen? Well, I've got a little story
for you..."

And now it all comes to an end. Check this out:

Might well be. What color temp is your monitor calibrated for? Mine is set to 6500K as a compromise since I use it to edit photos for the web. For correct rendition it should be set even warmer. Most monitors default to around 9000K.

I really don't see a blue bias in most of my photos. Take a look at my gallery:
http://www.newportnet.com/photos/browse.cfm?srow=145

All photos from there forward were taken with the 950 and virtually none of them have had any color correction done on them at all.

Help!

What is wrong with my camera?

Lighten up everyone!

Brent
No, it is not normal, despite what some have said(actually about two of them). Having said that I can still get this kind of shot with a 35mm SLR and lens and early to late evening lighting or morning haze. Remember the sort of blue that could happen often if you did not use a color correction filter? Nikon have got this coolpack out which contain a set of 4 correction filters and it is up to your level of expertise to figure out the sort of shots you want. Rubbish in equals rubbish out.

Of course I am assuming you have tried the white balance option. Just wondering why I don't get these sort of problems? or maybe I just prefer the sheer life and sparkle from the 950 than the dead contricted( though nice colour balance) pics from other supposed digicams. One of the reasons these thread can explode into life is that the Nikon gives you something worthwhile and other people use the smallest technical indiscretions to further their own aims. Try the white balance for outdoor condidtions or try photoshop. I this was posted a week ago but then so what?

I've been visiting this forum for a few months now, just before I bought
my CP 950. It's been a great site, and is EXTREMELY helpful on a range of
issues.

Everything was normal until one visitor came around and started to claim
that Nikon was falsely modifying the blue on it's images.
That's not the point. A lot of images posted everywhere on the net are
tOo bLue
to be appreciated. Most of them come from a 950!
(from my
viewpoint) This was done not by trying to start an unjudgemented
discussion,
Unjudgemented, wHy?
but an insult to nIikon owners suggesting they should "face
reality", that their camera was defective and that they essentially just
threw away about $1K of hard earned money (over a series of discussions).
You should check, maybe Nikon cover this kind of behaviors under their
warranty!!!.
The one person who has sometimes been the SOLE responder to several of my
own questions (Mr. iNova) stepped up to bat and tried to rationally point
out some issues with this "purple fog".
Is Nikon a religion? Do you need a Messee? You need someone to step up
for you! just enjoy your camera.
While Mr. iNova might not be the
most tactful (humorous, yes), he has unquestionably been a valuable asset
to this message forum. Ignore the blue or purple fog thread, and enjoy
the rest of them forum.
Why ignoring it, it's there...
Wouldn't you know it. I happen across the Nikon Forum thinking GREAT! No
more childish chat....now we can get some real information from mature
photogs. Then, I pick this thread to find absoultely nothing informative
and more child's humor than any Deja forum. Am I missing something or is
this "purple fog" thing just a big joke I don't get?
Look around, it's not a joke, it's everywhere, nobody seems to be able to
explain it, even
You are talking a load of bollocks, its not everywhere! its nowhere and its somewhere and just take a look at Phil's sample gallery.Just run the slideshow and thinks what it means to be able to take shots like those and show them to normal people.

http://www.lonestardigital.com/coolpix950.htm

Just look at the pics at the above site and wonder if what you are doing is right. Where else are you going to get lifeforce pictures like those? not a 950? Use the evidence of your own eyes and don't get sidetracked by the ramblings of others. People can take as much time as they want to decide on their next purchase, that's the beauty of digital, what you see is what you get and the more pics you can look at the more informed you are, instead of going around saying there's blue everywhere, what utter crap, that's not the issue the pictures themselves are. By the way, you would not be a 'troll' by any chance.

They are delicious, but I wish they were bigger, I love big res phots. Who is this fred character? The guy may be very amiable but he is a complete nutter, how can anyone one tell me to distrust the evidence of my own eyes?

Michael O ( who WILL tell you as it really is).

I'm working on it. I hope to have 600x800 versions up before too long. This started out as an archive of our home page photos where I use the smaller size to fit in the layout. Also note that they're all vertical, for the same reason. Eventually I'll be adding some horizontals also, although I've really grown fond of the vertical format.

Didn't your grammar school teachers teach you that it is not nice to
laugh at the expense of others?

I gave myself a 950 for my 70th birthday (love it) and I've been screwing around with cameras and photography for a bunch of years.

One thing I learned, in that time, is - owning a camera doesn't make you a photographer. Like any other tool, it has it's limitations - which can usually be compensated by the guy in charge.

Aren't these a blast? Free film, pretty images. Challenges, options, creative outlets...

Here are some I grabbed on a shoot last week:

http://www.metavision.com/SR3K.html

They make great looking 8x10s of the Epson EX and the actors were thrilled to the rafters to leave a shoot with their publicity photo in hand. I think I sold a dozen cameras in two days. Now if I could just find a way to make that pay...
