And if you did, where did you get it?

One thing I've noticed when price shopping on line for the best price on cameras that really annoys me is that when you "buy"(click shopping cart) and then start looking for accessories, they invariably will only have generic carryall bags for the camera(doesn't matter which camera you look at) that is luggage. You can forget about finding one at any of the "box stores".

When you buy a 35MM SLR OTOH, when you click on accessories, on the list, will be the factory fitted camera case. This little accessory is one of the best protections you will find for your camera and if it's designed right, you can leave it on all the time and it flips open quite quickly(which the Fuji one looks like it will leaving it attached to the strap). From my 35MM days, I still like the two piece ones that mounts the bottom half in the tripod socket but after using the one that came WITH my(not an opiton) Casio QV 3000, I like this type.
When I get a 602, I want to get this accessory with it.

Fujifilm Mall has it:

Well, I got the Fuji case thrown in when I bought my 602 and how they have the cheek to sell it for the price they do is beyond me. The one I got looks identical to the picture at the start of this thread and is plastic; PLASTIC, at THAT price! Do the sensible thing, go and buy a decent one, friend, you wont regret it.

Currently I am using a really neat (and quite small) aluminium case made by Cobra. It has a foam insert which can be cut to accomodate camera and accessories. Currently mine comfortably holds my Olympus 2100 and the Fuji 602, and would take memory cards and batteries if I wasn't so idle about attempting the cutting of more 'holes'.

Now 2 digital cameras, the 2100 Uzi and Fuji 602

At present, I don't even own the camera.

I know they're plastic, and the price from the Fuji site is outrageous but as I said, I want to be able to have it on the camera at all times unless shooting and have the camera strap itself hanging around my neck, not a separate ba that I have to pull it out of. It seems that when cameras changed over to digital, every common sense thing that was done with 35MM went out the window. BTW, I paid ,as I recall $13(in 1969 dollars) for the plastic( cardboard/velvet) case for my Minolta SRT -101 that is still clicking away(with nothing but a couple of cleanings) and looks like the day it was new after all these years. The price of it was inordinate relative to what I paid for the camera but no carry around bag would have provided the protection AND the convenience that it has.

Do you know of a "decent one" that is fitted, stays attached to the camera's strap and falls away with no effort when you want to shoot?

I don't like luggage round my neck either, but I want protection. When you've got that BIG zoom out, and hopefully you'll have thought about the extension tube and UV filter for protection - also the WCON adaptor lens, batts and cards, you either buy a decent fist size cam like a 602, or choose a smaller point and shoot fashion accessory. Look at Tamrac Zoom 14/16.

I purchased this very innexpensive ( $25) bag from LOWEPRO that holds the 602 camera with neck strap, my Vivitar Flash, spare batteries and the Fuji tele extender...

The bag is very light, very small and the 2 side pockets come off in one jiffy as they are held to main bag with VELCRO in case you do not require the whole kit.. it also is attaches to your waist and comes in 4 colors... real neat

I know they're plastic ... [snip]
I have never seen this case, but the description of it at the Fujifilm Mall says it's leather. Could there be two different cases, one in leather and another in plastic/vinyl/etc. manmade mishmash?

Sorry the cost is $37.00 for the bag

By the way the bag almost looks like it was designed for the Fuji 602 with the long SLR design

These were originally called eveready cases, but I always thought of them as never ready cases. The old, fitted two piece cases to me always were a dterminet to being ready to shoot. If you want to carry a camera and have it ready to shoot, then I find it is easiest to carry it with no case at all. Then there is nothing to fumble about with, nothing dangling to get in the way. When you are carrying you camera, either around your neck or over the shoulder, you just have to exercise caution.

Also, the two piece neverready cases were specifically form fitted to one camera configuration, typically that of a 50mm lens on a 35mm body. If you wanted to swithc over to a wide angle, zoom or tele, then the case would not fit. The saem holds true for the 602/6900...the form fitted case only fits when the camera is turned off and the zoom retracted. So, if you are carrying it in the case, you have to open the case and power up the camera then wait for the lens to extend......a far cry from just being able to pop open a case and shoot away. You will need to have the camera powered up, and if it is going to be powered up all the time, then why the need for the samll form fitting cases?

One of the best things to do is to invest in the apdapter tube for the lens protection it offers for the 6900/602. This provides more protection foer the camera than the smaller canses. The weakest point in this system is the lens when it is powered on. Any bump or jar to the lens assembly could be quite costly to fix and render the camera inoperable. The simple addition of the lens tubes effectively armor plates the lens assembly and protects it from moderate impacts.

As I said, there really is nofitted cases that just falls away and you are ready to shoot....you will always have to wait till the camera powers up, unless you go with something like a Lowepro Topload zoom case ("luggage" to you! :) I still think the best advice, if you want the camera always at the ready, is to disable the auto power off (or set to the longest time interval) and just keep the camera out and ready. You will have to be careful, but that is part of owning preceision equipment, you have to exercise caution unless you invest in pro quality body.

One other thing to consider, at least it was with my 6900, is the quality of the strap. My supplied Fuji strap is pretty wimpy and fragile when compared against a good Domke Gripper strap. If you plan to do a lot of shooting with the camera dangling from the strap, it is best to make usre you upgrade to a good, solid gripper style strap to hold the camera securely to your shoulders or around your neck. Also, constantly check the strap lugs to make sure they have not worked themselves loose. Personally, that is one reason I prefer my Domke bags over using a form fitted case and strap, is the security the case provices when I'm not shooting....I'd much rather miss an occasional shot while trying to extract my camera from the bag than have my 6900 crash to the ground from a strap failure while I was just walking along........

I don't care for bulky equipment cases either, I was using my old Olympus 600 case which fits the camera like a glove, only problem... No protection and with the lens uibe adapter and a filter it gets quite tight.

After many trips to different camera shops I ended up buying the Lowepro TLZ mini, used it over the weekend and I am really glad I bought it. It is very light, easy to access and provides great protection. Good Luck !
