A big 717 price drop?

Went to Best Buy this past Sunday and they agreed to price match the mysony.com price of $749. (B&H deal sound better now).

I had the F717 box in my hands by the register when I had a change is mind. Was I eager to get the deal or the camera? I showed the camera to my wife and she said "boy the lens is big" (negative). I said, but it takes amazing pictures, she said then get it. But the more I thought about lugging this thing around, I got cold feet. The topper was 15% restock fee at Best Buy, I really wanted to live with the camera for a few days, but I wasn't willing to pay the restock fee.

Boy, here was my change to finally shut up and get a DC! Had the wife talked into it and all. What a P* y ha! LOL.

p.s. I also had visions of my Nikon N80 strapped over one sholder, the Sony MiniDV PC110 camcorder on the other, and the F717 hanging around my neck!
i was in sears today and the sears salesperson told me that the
sony guy told him that there will be a big price drop in the 717
"in a couple of days, definitely by the end of march." i was told
the drop, and this is at sears, would be in the range of $200-$300
dollars.

i'm very skeptical. anyone hear similar news?

if so, is this normal of sony behavior halfway in a camera cycle?
and what is it indicative of?

ethical?

i don't know...but it's a good way to shop for a dc. and fun.

buy from a store with a no-restocking fee policy and use the camera for a week. that's the one and only way to really know, and it is good fun.

you can buy from sears, maybe the best return policy on the planet. or b&h, no re-stocking fee. i think dell also has no fee. buy it and try it and return it if you want.

I purchased a 717, 3 weeks ago from Bestbuy for $885. Now it's on sale for $799.99. I asked them about price matching and they said that they only price match for 14 days on digital cameras (the same 14 days as their return policy).

So, my question to BigK is: why do you mention 21 days left of matching?
Is there a difference between stores or should I try harder?

Joe Field
This only means the rest will surely follow. Even so, I would have
been content with full price. Of course I am willing to take any
money back they are willing to give.

Anyway, with a 3 yr service plan, I can upgrade to a newer model if
my 717 begins to mysteriously stop working correctly HaHa!!

Let it drop. Let it drop. Let it drop.

Find that hard to believe since it is supposed to be unchanged for the coming year.

nick,

ethical..well I don't know. I had some best Buy folks sell me stuff that they siad I would love, and if I don't just bring it back. This is the first one where they actually tape the box with 15% restock label.

I think Sears might be good. I don't trust B&H for returns, I had a long reply to a B&H thread on the Nikonians. Basically, they insulted me by telling me that flash I had returned was heavily used. Only thing I had done was shoot 6 shots and put it back in the box (defective). Anyhow, discussion for another time.

I think it true, because even amazon.com ( the website is not
B&H photo says "email for better price" - they now offer at $799.
I suspect the Canon 10D is going to push down the price of high-end
digicams...but I have no "insider" info; just a guess.

B&H has it for $749 + free shipping and no tax if your outside of NY. That's about $100 less for me than the other 3 - filter money!
