Everyone:

All your info should work for you and others! Go to http://www.resellerratings.com/reseller_list.pl?search=Gateway
or
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1867.html
and read that others may have had similar problems with these same suppliers!

The idea is to pick your SUPPLIER, not someone who convinces you they have "stock". I speak from lots of experience:

and

My first supplier ALSO had poor ratings at reseelerratings.com.... had I checked there first.....

Please read & learn from others' pain....

Wish you all well with your 10d's!!!

Kudos to Dell for their attempt to complete our orders. Thats what mine says too. This definitely sounds better than
"Delayed 3/17".
I called to cancel today and was told I couldn't cancel. They gave
me another phone number to call which was in the "software and
peripherals" department. The guy there told me my camera was
definitely shipping today even though it said 3/17 delayed on the
status page. He explained that their status page was not updated
and synchronized with the warehouse but assured me it would ship. I
even explained that I had it on order somewhere else and if there
was any doubt I needed him to cancel the order. He indicated over
and over that it would ship.

Not wanting to pay shipping + restocking to the other store, I took
a chance and cancelled the other order. When I got home, the
infamous message was on my machine indicating my new ship date was
4/17. When I went to the webpage to check the status online it said
"Cancelled".

What a great company! LOL

Now why do I get the sneaking suspicion that my Dell order isn't going to arrive today?

No replies to emails to my rep since Thursday (since first email exchange, so I know address work). Dell support says they cannot give me his supervisor's name.

How all very interesting. Not unexpected, this is Dell after all.

I'm very glad that when I started feeling like I wanted a 10D this month I put in an order at J&R on Friday where there were 8 left -- I have tracking number in hand and barring UPS messing up I'll have camera in hand today.

What? Basically it means it's backordered indefinately---at least before you had a date. I'm surprised they didn't put the 4/16 date since that's what they told us.

Ordered originally from B&H. Cancelled when Dell assured me I get my 10D sooner AND cheaper. Sigh. . . . . I've dealt with Dell multiple times in the past and NEVER been disappointed. So, I WAS blindsided by this screwup and surprised that Dell has such a bad reputation. Needless to say I won't be ordering any photo equipment from Dell for quite some time.

Dell's inventory management methods despite all reports to the contrary are a mess. Their customer service is terrible. I'm not quite sure how they could be run so poorly and continue to do so well. At least in the computer arena they've never disappointed.

Cancelled yesterday at Dell.

Take home lesson: Only deal with reputable dealers.

Good luck with your cancellation, my D60 was cancelled, cancellation confirmed, then delivered a few weeks later despite of the cancellation. I had to refuse the shipment and it took almost 3 months to get my credit back after I had to dispute it with my bank. I crossed them out of my list long time ago.

Phone status useless
Sales associates give differing answers each time you call.

And now I checked the web status and instead of the March 17th date I get:

Delayed Currently attempting to complete order

And after numerous refreshes, I no longer see the pre-blabla screens.

I'll never order from them again. Learned my lesson, either B&H or local.

How does Dell do so well in computers? Answer: build to order with the absolute minimum of inventory on hand at all times.

Now, if that were your operating style, how would you sell peripheral gear like cameras? Answer: Advertise, see how many orders you get, and then order them.

Did you think such a miraculous low price came FREE????

Actually, yes!! In my experience their computers are priced miraculously low and they ALWAYS deliver. It made perfectly good sense that they'd try and skim some of the cream off the top of this market at no significant cost to themselves.

Don't ask me how that company keeps up in the top 3. They must do better with computers than with peripherey....

Just wondering if everyone has already ordered another camera somewhere?

Frankly, I don't know what to do. Seems like if I'm getting on a list now I would be so far back I might as well stay where I'm at. And I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen again. I mean Dell did say that they had camera's in stock.Thing is I don't want to pay more than $1499. +shipping, or wait a month. No local shops anywhere around me or I would've done that route already. I am so bummed. If anyone received 2 10D 's and would like to help out a fellow dpreview member please let me know.

The low price was from a PREVIOUS sale going on before they ever released the 10D.

I just placed an order at ecost, the guy price matched the "Dell" price, I am canceling the Dell order due to their shenanigans...
