Dear people,

I red each and every of your responses to my previous posting. My questions obviously didn't leave you indifferent and I'm grateful for your discussion. Now I want to say the following:

1. I will prefer to say "kiss someones ass" to "lick someones ass" in future, although I think we understood each other
2. There is a difference between encouragement and "kissing someones ass".

3. I didn't dissect the frog. I wanted to know why do we react to frog's activity as we do. However, the frog was dissected conseguently.

4. We all try to solve our mysteries. To overanalyze something means to go a wrong way in the process of understanding. Understanding (of art) may (for me) be intelectual or emotional. But in the end we will try to verbalize everything as our abstract thinking is bound to language of some kind.

5. The phenomenon of becoming a famous artist is unclear to me. I just learned quality of art is not the only component of this process. I learned how important is the myth following the artist and his life. Sometimes the artist's work induces creation of this myth easily as the spectators wish to cooperate. Sometimes is the myth made by purpose.

6. I believe it doesn't matter how artist creates his work. The result is important. Considering posprocessing, no other visual art suffers on this dilema, as in painting and plastic everything is "postprocessed".

7. I believe being a 22 years old sweet intelligent extraordinary girl is a good start of artistic career (or any other public bound career). Lately I have seen similar selfportraits of Daisy Ascher, there is also a bit of morbidity in them (and she suffers on serios mental problems) . But she is 50 or so and I realized I'm not that ready to believe in honesty of her pictures.
8. Marek is a common name in Slovakia where I come from.

I'm happy to be with you again,

Marek

Art is an act of self expression. By expressing the light we suppress the inner darkness. By expressing the happiness we hide inner misery. By expressing sexuality we opening our body. By expressing the death we embracing the life. Thanks for your teachings!

Marek, just in case you are unfamiliar with some US colloquialisms (and I am probably doing you a great disservice by underestimating your knowledge of American English), here are a couple more you may want to add to your list. Sucking up = brown nosing = kissing/licking ass. As are the two you have used, these also are most frequently used when referring to an underling's relationship to his/her boss. Now you can be as crude as we are known to be. :-)

Completely off-topic, but I was in Slovakia Sep-2002 as part of my 3-week Europe tour. I found Slovakian food so good, especially after spending 9 days in Italy, where on average, the food was so-so.

Anyway, this pic of a castle ruin (i forget the name of the castle) is for you. Don't know if you have better and more varied pics, if so, please share them. We entered the castle ruin after 6 pm, and the keeper, and old man, was so kind enough to let us go in, even though the park was closed. Slovakian people are generally warmer in nature than the Italians we encountered.

To help the non-Americans, I have to disagree. As was brought up on the other thread, kissing and licking ass are not synonymous. Kissing ass is the term for catering to one's superiors. Licking ass has sexual connotations. Your use of the" " indicates that they're synonymous.

Marek had it right.

Marek,

You really should keep the first thread going rather than to start a new one.

There is no problem trying to put arts into words as all the critics do. I also believe Asya, and many others including myself, would be happy to see the development in that direction. But I'm not quite sure your questions in both threads set up the stage for that. Somewhere you mentioned the quality of arts. That should be a very good start. Then we should stick to it. As most of us agree that Asya's pictures work. They trigger the audience emotional responce, either disturbing, shocking, or soothing. Then we can move on to discuss why and how. My time is up now. Just try to keep the thread going on.

I may come back later.

If you want to keep the thread running, fine, but how about keeping OUT the vulgarities?

I yield to you, Charlie. You are correct. I perceived "licking" to be the crudest form of brown nosing.
