F717 Price Drop

hi,

thanks for the info. i just went to BH Photo's site, and it's listed at $799 for me. wonder if i'm missing something?

SSD has it for $749 with no tax plus shipping. J and R has it for $749 with no tax outside NY and free shipping, so i would guess it is the best deal.

i'm close to pushing the "purchase" button. anybody know of a better deal?

thanks
I'm new to this forum but in case anyone's interested, J and R,
State Street Direct, and BH Photo has the 717 for around $749. I
got mine from J and R on Friday. Today, the other 2 stores have
them for that price, it was $799 on Friday.
Sony F717 is now priced at $799 (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.)

Does this mean Sony is coming up with a new model? a F727 perhaps?

i bought a mac computer from them last year and everything went smoothly for me. regarding the camera purchase, they called my home today to verify my address b/c i asked for a different shipping address from my billing. at least they're checking right? the camera should be sent out today.

Hi,

New to the forum. I am considering buying the F717. Went to BestBuys and the salesperson agreed to match web prices, if the site was legitimate. He warned me about e-stores not being "Sony Authorized resellers" in which case, the factory warranty on the camera is voided. BTW, price at butterflyphoto.com is $737 + $20 Shipping, no tax.

Can anyone confirm this? TIA

Purchased on Feb 15, 2003 so I was within the 30 day return / pricematch period. I must say the salesman was excellent. He remembered selling me the camera and was very very friendly about the whole process. I didn't have to do anything but lay out my receipt and show him the add. He got out his calculator and said "How does a $253. credit sound?" Needless to say I was veeery happy.
I purchased my 717 from Sears, open box, for $899 and $135 for the
"Master Replacement Plan" (plus tax). Yesterday I went to Sears
with Comp USA ad in hand for a pricematch and was given a $253.
credit on my charge card. I'm not sure how the guy came up with
that number but being that it was much higher than I reckoned I
wasn't about to complain.
Joe, how long ago did you buy your 717 at Sears? I also got it for
$899 and the MRP but it was a few months ago.

hi,

that's interesting! i thought BB would not match web deals. but if they do, perhaps this deal would be best? i think SSD is a sony authorized dealer:

http://www.ssdonline.com/detail_page.cfm?ProductID=DSCF717

it should be $748 + shipping

would BB match the total price, even though the online retailer does not charge tax?

let me know how it goes, thanks.

yohman,

Since my previous post, I spoke to the BestBuy dept. manager by phone, gave him the price and website info. He called me back whithin 15 minutes with his offer: Camera price $696 + local tax (7.75% CA) for a total price of $754.99, which beats the web site ($737 + 19.99 shipping, no tax ), plus no waiting for it and you get to talk to a real person in case something goes wrong!
I am sold. Hope this infor helps.

JC45:

I'm in the same situation as you. I purchased my 717 from Sears
with the MRP a few months ago (around December). I wonder how Sears
would handle a replacement, should my 717 break, when I paid more
for the camera then the current price. Any ideas?
I returned my 707 today (dls) that I purchased last July. Had the MRP for my 707 that I purchased for "a good deal" on a price match. The salesperson gave me two choices:

1) An even swap for a 717 (no 707's available)
2) A refund of my purchase price

I gave the salesman a list of the recalled 717's (focusing problem) and he walked down to the pick-up area and found me a camera with a safe serial number. It has been a good day! Right now I am enjoying my 717 and playing around with some of the subtle changes. THANKS SEARS!

When is that again?
I guess that actually it's IFA 2003 this year rather than Photokina. But that makes sense, as I think the two shows flip-flop each other every other year.

http://www.ifa-berlin.de/fset_home_e.html

It will be in Berlin, Aug 29 - Sept 3.
Probably right but why do you have to ruin this for me?
Heheheh... I should have just let you alone, shouldn't I? :-))
though the V1 looks nice, it is not an F-series. You know that as
much as anyone that you just can't go back.
Yeah... sigh... how well I know. :(
