I hope there is a solution to this one. My wife has my C2000 with her on a
trip - she had about filled up a 32MB smartmedia card. She's not very
familiar with the camera, and while trying to change a setting, she
formatted the card. Needless to say, she is not too happy at the moment.

Is there any way at all that we can get these photos back? I told her to
remove the card from the camera with the hope that we might be able to
restore the files when she gets home. I have a USB reader if this makes any
difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kevin, the Smartmedia format is based on the same scheme as DOS (not sure of the electronics; except Erase uses 1/2 the current it takes to Write to the card). If you have any of those DOS Utilities (try shareware or a DOS wrb site), see if you can read the card/disk. Typically if you re-format a Hard Disk, you are SOL!

Try to post your problem to Olympus website.

I accidentally erased all the vacation photos (58 of them) on my Olympus D320L some time back (hit erase all instead of erase 1). I emailed Olympus, and their rep emailed back that the photos were gone. I wasn't ready to believe, however, and one morning I went to shareware.com and downloaded an evaluation copy of an undelete utility. Then, using my flashpath adapter, so that the file looked like a floppy, I brought up the fat tables and undeleted them--one by one. I don't know if it would work in your circumstances, but it is worth a try. I was told it wouldn't work, but it did.

I spoke with 2 Olympus reps today (one returned a voice mail) - the first told me that the pictures could be recovered with Norton Utilities Unerase Wizard. I emphasized the fact that the card was formatted and not erased. He still said that it could be done. The second rep told me that it could not be done. After reading your post, I'm optimistic that I can get the photos back.

The first rep told me that if I was unable to get the files back myself, that they might be able to do it.

I will post my results here after my attempt.

Thanks.
