I think about purchasing either Fuji S2 or Canon D10. I am familiar with Canon stuff, but I do not have any idea about Nikon/Sigma lenses. Can you suggest a good zoom lens which costs less than $550? BTW, I have seen a lot of great high-ISO shots taken with S2, but I am not able to find info about S2 autofocus in low-light situations. How is it? Thanks!

try the tamron 24-135. gives a decent 36-210(approx) after 1.5x at least you will still have a modest 'wide of 36'. very good performance with macro as well. i use this lens for wedding shoots, travels etc shoot at f5.6 and play with the ISO when you need more speed. cheap and good!!!

I own, and like, the Nikkor 28-105 AF 3.5-4.5D. It doesn't have a wide maximum aperture but it's sharp and pretty much distortion free.

As far as low light AF performance is concerned, I would rate that as one of the strong points of the Nikon system and a definite point of superiority over Canon. Nevertheless, the D10 looks like terrific value and deserves very serious consideration.

For a $300 lens, it's excellent! You get good range, it's light, sharp, and contrasty. It also has the macro function. You can't go wrong.

28-105 great lens!!

If you are looking for more reach, the Nikon 70-300 is also a good buy. At about 350.00

But you didn't really specify a range.

Don't forget the Nikon 80-200 F2.8 MACRO ED. Maybe comparable to the Canon "L". I buy used lenses, get better glass and save $$$. Both the 35-70 and this 80-200 are in the $600 range used. They will hold their vaule too.
