Hi All,
I have just returned from seven days in Prague adn the Czech Republic with the 3000z. It worked well. I took pics in all types of light conditions including hand held in dark eateries. I hope to post some if I can learn how to do it. Any advise on posting?
Also just to let you know my camera is back in the shop. On my last pic in Prague when I turned off the camera, the lens did not retract. After that turning the camera on and off did not change anything and only a grinding noise was heard when the lens attempted to retract. Prior to this, on two occasions I had a problem with focus in that the camera would not focus on anything. However, when I turned in off and on again all was well. This leads me to believe that some gears in the camera were becoming bad.
So what did I learn about the camera on a trip where extensive pics are taken:
1. For general pics that will be shown in a slide show later at home, the camera is excellent. Having the audio and video adds to the presentations.
It would be nice however if the audio could be more than 10 seconds.
2. For Tiff images it work well, pictures are very sharp and with proper use of white balance (same for jpgs also), the pictures are great. In Prague there are a lot of street people who hand out fliers on local concerts. What is nice is the the flip side of the flier is white and made a good white balance sheet. I also used tee shirts and white sweaters for white balance. This work very well in dark places. I know that there has been alot of discussion of having preset white balances. I have this on other cameras. A few would be nice, but the manual white balance that we have with this camera is really good and I encourage you to use it.
It would be nice if there was more of a buffer for the Tiffs however so that more pics could be taken in a row. This would be particularly good for panoramas, whcih I like to take and print.
3. The batteries were no problem. I brought a charger and had extras always ready. I even had an external battery pack from Unity Digital. Worked great. The batteries lasted al long time even though I took most of the pics with the LCD.
4. The jpgs produced nice images.
It would be nice if we had less compression on the jpgs. They are too compressed. I think alot of us would like this.
5. Using the LCD for the most part I caught errors in focusing, so this was not a major problem. By doing a quick look at the images I caught exposure errors.
6. I had an external flash, but only used the one on the camera. It work well and had not problem with hand helds.
All in all, we have a great camera. A firmware upgrade would put this camera on top. Does Epson read our site?
