Finally had a free afternoon, that was sunny, to try my E20 and the Hoya IR 72 filter. This is the result, after converting to B&W and some serious toning in Photo Shop. I like it, depsite the fact it looks like it was taken on a moonlit night. The original B&W is much brighter, and I will post it later on. The scene is in the oldest part of one of my favorite cemeteries, called "The Old Circle"... grave marker dates between the late 1700's to the mid to late 1800's. Hence the title:
The Forgotten Circle

I have yet to go through all the files on the CF... can't wait!

I left a comment on photoSIG, but I want to reiterate that the off center composition is so powerful!

Very nice work.

Great shot, Melanie...completely fascinating to look at. The sky is fantastic. The entire image seems to smack of illusion, I think because of the compensated fish-eye effect, yet it's not tangible.

Very nice!

Wonderful work, Melanie. I love the off balance look.

Because of your inspiration, I've done a few IR shots with my E20. No, I'm not going to post them. I'd be a little embarrassed at this point. No, A lot embarrassed. I'm working on it, though.

Melanie,

I have never done IR on my E10, but you image is sure giving me a good kick in the butt to do so. Can you give any basic tips? And if you are using oly's WCON-08B, did you really find a 105mm thread; then how can you use your Hoya IR 72 filter?
Thanks,
Kevin

Great shot. Very nice, errie IR effect (I'm finding myself falling in love more and more with IR lately). Great subject for it. Good work.

Thanks David. Cemeteries are great places for IR work.... People
wonder about me and the fact that I prowl around these places, but
I don't care. I'm not morbid... LOL
I look foreward to the leaves returning to the trees, as the pines
and fir trees don't produce the dramtic IR look I like so well.

Hi Melanie

I enjoy cemetaries as well. My husband thinks I am bonkers but whos to say he is wrong-lol.........Your picture sure gives one inspiration to get out there and use the camera to its fullest capabilities. I have yet to post anything either .Have only had camera a month or so but will be as soon as I can get out and shoot ,We have been having too much rain.

OK Melanie, Here it is in all it's non-glory. It was late in the day in the campground and I thought the texture of the pine trees might be interesting. I was surprised at the dynamic range, with all the detail in the shadow side.

I think more distant stuff might work better.

I'm unclear what exposures work well. I tried over and under on several frames but came to no conclusion. Any ideas? I'll try more as the year warms up.

No, you are NOT morbid. Many people, including myself, enjoy a special attraction to such places. They are mysterious, strange and unique, as well as stimulating to the imagination and definitely make great image possibilities, as evidenced from your great pic.

Here's a site that a fellow I know frequents and that I have found interesting. You may want to check it out.....features other photographers and thier work within such atmospheres.
