I can relate to the desire to get a new toy in hand as qickly as
possible, but this frenzy is out of control. The same thing
happened with the D60. Folks were paying $2500 on ebay to get the
camera sooner. Now those same people are probably kicking
themselves for going out of their way to pay way too much for a
camera that's already discontinued.
If you have to wait to get the camera, wait. In the mean time, take
the camera you have, go out, take some pictures and stop
complaining that the company that is providing the best deal on
your new camera might not ship on the expected date two days from
now.
I am normally a very calm, somewhat intelligent person. But trying
to order a 10D has become a nightmare. I was burned by Dell last
year with the D60 and should have known better this time around. I
was at the top of the list at both Ritz and Onecall when Dell's
price broke on Wednesday. I called five minutes after Nguyen
posted and Dell guaranteed they were in stock (three times) and
sent a confiming email shortly thereafter and they put a reserve on
my Visa card. At that point I canceled with Ritz and Onecall.
Then there were the notices of delays and after several hours I was
told that they had taken orders for 250 but only had fifty in stock
and I would't get one until April 15 at the earliest. I called
back several times but could never get to talk with a supervisor.
I don't think this place has any management anyway. I canceled my
order and they stated they would free up the Visa amount within a
couple of hours. It's now Friday and there is still a hold on that
amount from Dell.
The set-up at Dell is extremely poor. They have no real time
information and they haven't improve at all after last year's
fiasco. They promise the world and deliver absolutely nothing.
