Sell1D and get 10D?

... I had exactly your thoughts some days ago.

If the camera was 6-8MP I would no doubt want to hold onto it
for a LONG time.
Me too, but at least 8 Mp to really see the difference.
I guess I will just keep it and use it. Whenever
they come out with the equivalent of a 1D with 8MP for $2500, then
I will get it and my 1D will be worth $1700! You gotta love
technology!
You're right... oh.. and in the meantime shoot Raw and try CaptureOne converter. It will make you falling in love again with your 1D !

Ciao :-)

Ryan,

I'm keeping the 1D. My 10D is arriving next week, I have all the lenses you mentioned below. I just want to have a second body with a large MP capacity. the 1DS ($ & 11.1 MP) is too much for me. Keep it (1D), if money is not an issue. BUT if you need money just to buy the 1d, IMHO, you're seling the 1d for the wrong reasons. the 1D is in a niche on its own. why do you think the price is not dropping as fast as the D60 or even the Nikon D1x/h????

I have a 1D now and I like it but I am not sure I need that much
camera. I like that it can pop off 8fps but I don't NEED it. I am
seriously considering just selling it at getting a 10D. I know I
lose th 1.3 CF and 8FPS and more but I think for a few grand less I
can get just as good images for what I am doing.(landscape, casual
people, etc.) Can you people help me with this. I have some really
great L's (16-35, 24-70, 70-200IS) so I don't need any lenses. Is
anyone else considered this?

I did basically the same thing last year when I sold my Nikon D1 and bought a D60. I have no regrets. I miss the all metal body, the instant power on, better autofocus, and a few other things, but what a relief not to lug that big monster around everywhere!

Way to go !

Who needs better AF, better quality, faster responses, better build, etc, etc, etc ...... it's the weight that counts.

I'm selling all my EOS gear and buying a Kodak disposable. Pictures suck but hell it's just so light !

:o)

That is pretty funny! I love my tank! It gets lots of looks that is for sure! All I know is that when I bought all my gear I spent about $9000 on all of it and I hardly get to use it especially since it is just one of my hobbies. I am sure when the weather gets better that will all change. My other hobby is video. I have a Sony VX2000 and do a lot of fun stuff in FCP. I guess I can do most of that in the winter and shoot more in spring summer and fall.

Judging by the intelligence of your posting, you would probably get the same results with the Kodak disposable.

I didn't bother mentioning the obvious, that the D60 has sensor more than twice as large as the D1, uses less battery power, and isn't plagued by the infamous magenta skin tone problem like the D1.

But the point is, when the D1 came out there was no middle range DSLR to pick from. I didn't need a pro-level camera but that was all there was to choose from. With the D30, D60, D100, etc. there are a lot more choices and for some of us it may make sense to downgrade.

Let's face it, the 1D is a lot like the D1. It is fast becoming a dinasour.

Brilliant ...... really funny !

Everyone ditch your 1D's as this guy says they're heading for extinction !

Where DO you dredge this kind of stuff up from for heaven's sake ?!!!

Have you ever used the D60, even though the 10D represents an improvement it is still going to be similar to the D60. I bought into digital a little over 6 months ago and it was Nikon D100 vs Canon D60. I used my freinds D60 once and bought the Nikon. I was going to be shooting mostly sports, the viewfinder the D60 is very small and the autofocus is pitiful as well as the image review was slow. I know that the autofocus has been updated and the thing is faster for review, but my point is that the 10D is an upgrade and it's still going to have the traits of the D60 (including 1.6x crop). Wait till you can get your hands on one and then make the decision. You'll probably be able to get $3300 or so for your 1D on eBay (and I don't see the market for the 1D vanishing tommorow based on the number of pros who shoot with them) so you sholdnt be in a hurry. Once you can get your hands on it make a decision. Although my quesiton becomes why did you buy the 1D initially? I bought the 1D becasue framerate and higher resolution than Nikon D1h. Also with the $$$ value of equipment you have, it doenst seem like having an extra $1500 in your pocket is really a concern, especially if you have to ask on a forum.

Thanks,
Adam

I'm wondering the same thing. My 1D still delivers the same quality as it did before the 10D was announced. I'm amazed at all these people jumping at the 10D, especially since so many forum users were always insistent that the D30/D60 autofocus wasn't really that bad.

Let's see, the 10D is the digital equivalent of the mid-range Elan 7, a very capable amateur camera (w/o spot metering, though, another one of these Canon omissions that boggles the mind) while the 1D is the speedy equivalent of the 1V. The 1Ds is in a class all by itself, combining the advantages of 35mm flexibility with, apparently, output equal to medium format. Point is, these are different caliber cameras.

Replacing the 1D with the 10D only makes sense if you feel the image quality of the 1D is lacking, the weight is too much...or you bought the 1D for the wrong reasons.

Except that the 1D has a sensor that is larger than that of the 10D/D60/D30, plus faster AF, better build, weather sealed body, 8 frames per second shooting, faster shutter speeds, faster flash sync.... um. I'm probably forgetting some things.

I think we are just used to the 12 month upgrade cycles that Canon has had us on with the D30/D60/10D and 1D/1Ds. And then there are the consumer Powershot cameras...

LOL ...... good spot !!!

I don't actually have a 1D yet but I'm still looking to move up ...... I'm convinced it's easily ther best DSLR around for sports photography which is where I'm at !

Good luck with your "lighter" gear ...... I'm for the dinosaur !!!
