I ordered a 10D. I almost bought a used D30. I'm just hoping the the 10D is $700 better.

God bless ,you, me, all the nations of the world!

Have a D-30 and am keeping it for my web based photography but will use the 10D for larger blow ups... If you don't plan to go bigger than 8x10 and don't mind the focus... Then no, you don't need a new one... The D-30 is an excellent camera...

I've owned a D30 (now have the 1D) and have easily enlarged to 11x14 & 13x19 without noticeable loss of detail or sharpness - especially when using Fred Miranda's PS actions.

Since most people don't carry loupes in their pocket for viewing photographs, please feel free to enlarge to 16x20 if you've got the printer to do it. I do & people love them.

If your decision is based on pixels, then save your money and keep shooting with your D30.

I make A3 (13x19 prints from my D30 as well and they look just as good as the smaller prints.

I wish people would stop their cr'p saying you cannot make bigger than 8x10 prints from D30....

Hey - nice one! I had a look at the full-size original and was pleasantly surprised. Not bad at all for an old goat like the D30. I'd keep it if I was you.

BTW, on a subject like this, the "Edge Sharpening" Photoshop action by Fred Miranda will work miracles. There is a free version available for downloading and the "pro" version with a lot more options is only a few dollars. If you're interested, check out this site: http://www.fredmiranda.com/Action_profilesPage/index.html

(the free action is called "ES-8bit light" and is on the bottom-right of the page)

Yes - but what's so strange about that?

How much do you sell your A3 prints for?

Thanks

My D30 is great. For newspaper pictures the file size is big enough. Magazines I sell to still want film. There are certain things I don't like about the camera, like THE FLASH, for example, but hopefully that will improve. I don't need a new camera yet. It has held up extremely well and is better sealed against dust than I expected.

I will say this. I shoot pictures almost every day and I think it took me a year to get good on the camera. There's lots of new stuff to learn. When you shoot photos you can't think. You have to know what to do with the camera by instinct. I've got lots of images shot with the wrong white balance...

Oh yeah, and it was my opinion. It wasn't crapp or bullocks. It was an opinion. If the quality is fine for you, cheers!!! It just isn't for me. I am real pickey I will admit. I never thought D-30 images over 8x10 looked good, even with GF.

I am sorry you took my opinion so personally. Didn't mean to bother ya. Boy people can really get worked up by the smallest things here. I mean we are only talking about print enlargements for gods sake...

I'm buying a D30 in a week or so, 'cause the price is right. I have no glass whatsoever - what do you folks recommend that I start off with?

--
CP4500, Epson 2200 & a bunch of other schtuff.

Primarily landscape and street.
Sigma 15-30 - Landscape
Canon EF 24-85 - Street
Canon EF 28-135 - Street, daytime
Canon 70-200 f/4 - Street, candid
There is nothing I could add to this recommendation ;-)

Except maybe a 1.4/50 USM for those low-light situations. Everybody should have one - it's just THAT good.

Ciao

Hey Canon People...

I am thinking about buying a D30. What is a reasonable price to pay on eBay? I have seen poeple buying them at 1200-1300 dollars. I mean for that you can almost get a 10D.

Does anybody have one they might want to unload? email me....
