Is anyone getting cameras form Dell or are we all screwed. I can't figure out whether some got in in time and others did not or whether Dell has no cameras??

Does everyone's order status say "Delayed - 3/17/03" ?

I ordered from yesterday. She says the one I ordered is still registering to be delivered on 03/17. My web also says "IN Progress" and then "Delayed - 03/1703".

But what do I know? I'm just a servant to the ancient Sumerian god, Gozer the Gozerian. Keymaster

Call your rep back and ask if your order is "IP" (in production). If it is, you should be receiving a camera with the anticipated ship date of 3/17. I am sure this date is based on their anticipated delivery from their supplier. As always, your mileage may vary.....

Got another email from Dell this AM with same data, and a Call from them this afternoon to confirm the order. I was told by the rep calling the camera is scheduled to ship on or before 3/17.

Below is the info I got this morning (cut and pasted from another thread)

Just got off the phone with customer service after placing an order yesterday at 4:30pm. At the time I was told the camera was definetely in stock and would absolutely ship on or before 3/17.

After getting no information from the first rep I talked with I asked to be switched to a service rep manager but was droped into their automated phone system instead and forced to call again. I was finally put in touch with someone who said that the camera is currently back ordered with no ETA. She said the only thing Dell could guarantee is that it would not arrive by 3/17 and could take weeks. Then she expressed her appologies and asked if I wanted to cancel my order.

With the purchase of my last two computers from Dell I was satisfied with their products and customer service. But after this fiasco I will be looking elswhere for my next upgrade.

I just spoke with my rep at Dell and he says my order is "In production" and should still ship on or before the quoted day (3-17-03). He also said he would keep a watch and let me know if there is going to be a problem shipping on that day or not. I ordered it on Wed around 1-1:30pm PST. If I hear back from him I will post any new info. Currently my status says "Delayed 3-17-03" on the dell website. Keeping fingers crossed.

I did not get my order in, but they told me that all the people who managed to place the orders will get them. Apparently it was a temporary number, and they cancelled it once all the units in inventory were sold out.

So at least from what they told me, those of you who managed to place an order will get them shortly.

I just called and the person I spoke with didn't seem to know very much about what was going on. He said it was "In Production" but on backorder. Not very helpful. Oh well, maybe I'll try to get more information tonight otherwise I'll just try to sit tight until Monday evening.

I just called to order a 1D using my coupon on the last possible day since the link to the 1D online didn't work for some reason. The rep said there is some serious trouble going on right now between Dell and Canon over 250 orders on the 10D, and they've been ordered to stop selling any Canon cameras not in stock until the issue is resolved. He said he didn't know the whole story, but he said it was a big deal because a number of people have called trying to get the camera discounts before the sale ends, and it is a bum deal for the sales reps.

It could be that Dell is in trouble with Canon for selling/advertising the 10D under the minimum price. Doing so could cause Canon to refuse to sell to them. Canon sets the minimum price they can sell for period, and Dell did not take the discounts and coupon into consideration for the minimum price. This is a big NO NO cause it can drive the market price downward and this is something that Canon wants to control.

That said, If you go by Dell's history with the D60, it may be a long wait to get the 10D through them, and even then they may have to rescind the discounts to get back into Canon's good graces.

there is a MAP - minimum advertised price which they should not advertise below. I doubt that Canon would be able to prevent them from selling below a certain price if not advertised. As far as I know they have not advertised them at all.

But I am not a lawyer and could be wrong...

This whole MAP thing may well be illegal. Didn't the recording industry just pay a big fine for enforcing MAP on CD vendors?

Strangely, my order status just changed at Dell. It was in the "delayed" status, but now it has gone to "preproduction" (2nd of four steps) complete. Still claims ship on 17th. Claims delivery on 18th.

What I find strange is that this would happen this late at night (I checked probably an hour and a half ago and it was in "delayed" state... I know... neurotic to check that often). I'm wondering if this indicates some sort of counting of orders and matching them up with inventory.

Oh now this is unbelievable...

Every time I click the link to check the status it displays the other status. It actually alternates between delayed and being in progress.

Wierdest tracking system I've ever seen.

I am seeing these alternating screens too. One time it will come up with the "Delayed 3/17" screen, and now just a few moments ago, I got a screen that shows the 10D in step #2 "Pre-production". Shipping is greyed out for 3/17. I ordered from them on 3/12 between 1 - 1:30 pm Pacific coast time. I sense they sold out between 1:15 - 1:45 pm PST.
