990 upgrade using Win 95??

Hi everyone:

After reading all the rave reviews I want to upgrade my 990 to firmware version 1.1 BUT
I only have access to pc's running Win 95 and NT.

NT does not support USB. Has anyone upgraded using Win 95 and the USB port?? Now that we know that we don't have to install Nikonview 3, is upgrading via USB and Win 95 possible?? I really don't want to purchase the serial cable just for upgrades.

I do not believe Win95 or Win NT support USB. A later edition of Win 95 may.

I agree. USB is unknown to Windows 95.

Windows 95 b DOES support USB, so do you think it'll work??

Try it but don't install NijkonView 3.0. Just plug your camera in and see if it searches for a driver. If it does put the Nion disk into your CDROM reader and have it search the root directory. If it finds the USB driver file you should be home free. I would delay installing NikonView as a very last resort.

I'm sitting here with my SanDisk USB card reader running on Win95 with no problems. The Microsoft USB drivers were a supplement to the OS. This diskette was provided by Micron but again, it is a Microsoft diskette for Win 95.

I am using win95 on my note book toshiba and the 2 usb are working well
with my camera logitech pro.
I install nikon view ver.3 and i can acess to the cf card and i can see
all the photos through the USB cable, but i can't upload the upgrade 1.1
for the coolpix990 all the time when i double click on upload icon i get
a message " sti.dll is missing "...
So i make different tests and i can't solve the problem and now i can't
re-install the nikon view.3 and recieve another message " not enought space "
If somebody can help me, many tanks ...

It may or may not work, but go to following web site, download new .dll, and follow instructions. While it states using Windows 2000, it might work on Win95B as well.
